Reversing camera thoughts?
Hi

I want to fit a reversing camera setup to my 110 SW. I have found the forum search facility very useful for ideas and feedback, but would welcome any additional thoughts.

I have looked at various websites inlcuding reversing camers uk, ebay etc and think that I want;

5 inch TFT monitor with 2 camera input. I do not want type that is mirror mounted, my preference is to screw to the top of the dash. I seem to remember there is a restriction on mounting on the dash something that protrudes higher than the wipers, or am I wrong? I read on here about someone having an issue with the weight of a mirror mounted monitor, hence my aversion to them.

2 CCD camera's, one mounted above the safari door, one bullet type on rear crossmember that can assist lining up the trailer. Any idea on diameter of the bullet one, so it can fit in the existing hole?

Any thoughts or feedback on nightvision camera's?

I am overwhelmed by the choice and whilst ebay is tempting, i am wary of buying something that turns out to be poor quality or does not last, i would rather spend wisely and once. I previously bought and fitted a set of parking sensors to my last Landy, and it was money wasted!

Any and all feedback appreciated

mike

I've often toyed with the idea. However the best location seems to be directly above the hitch on the centre of the cross member, exactly where my nato hitch is.

I could mount one underneath but I also have a reciever so that would be blocked by the drop plate.

At the overland show I saw a great idea which was to mount in the spare wheel. Had been done on a few of the big trucks.

Depends on your wheel type but that might work for you. www.td5.org

Food for thought isthat some of the Garmin sat navs have a wireless camera. The (SVX?) defenders have a mount for the defender dashboard so it looks fairly standard. Although perhaps a little pricy it also includes a sat nab obviously 😀

I have a set-up with a bullet cam in the crossmember and a 5 inch screen (that can take two camera inputs) on the dash.

I am considering another camera above the rear door as when I have the bike rack attached the lower down camera is obscured.

If you have two cameras, you need to consider how power is switched to each one as if attached to the same screen, one will take precedence for display unless it is switched off in which case the screen will display output from the other camera.

This can be done by wiring one to the reverse light so when reverse is selected it takes precedence on the display, else diplay the other cam.

I have a 28mm bullet cam that fits perfectly into one of the holes in the crossmember

I can't vouch for how it performs, but there is a reverse camera shown in the latest land rover monthly magazine..

Get a double din stereo and have it display on that. My double din stereo is one that flaps up when I start the engine then tucks back away when not being used. I would prefer a built in one (with a modified dash console) so will be considering this later. My camera is mounted above the rear door so gets a reasonably good unobstructed view - the spare tyre does hide quite a bit though so you have to know the parameters of the vehicle when reversing tightly against something but this becomes second nature after a short while

The camera is avaiable here.

I have 1 of these. Can see the tow ball, just. Good view during the day. Not good at night with normal reverse light and no other light. Generally happy.
