Rear door/wheel rattle
Hi folks,

My tdci 90 has only done 5k miles and a rattle has recently started from the spare wheel on the back door.
The car came with steel wheels so I had to use some spacers to space the wheel away from the rear wiper after I put the boost alloys on myself (I figured out it was too close the hard way and the rear wiper stuck!).

What is the official Land Rover way of spacing a boost alloy on the rear carrier and does anyone know what actually is rattling as the wheel nuts are tight on the carrier.

I'll check for you later, but I don't think there's any spacers on mine and the wiper wotks fine. No doubt somone will give you a more definitive answer Thumbs Up

The studs on the carrier are adjustable to a degree! You should be able to wind them out sufficiently for a boost.

Cheers but I'm not sure how moving the studs out are going to space it away from the wiper though? The back of the wheel sits against the carrier...?

I shall say it again....The studs are adjustable. Look at the picture below. The flat nut will wind out allowing you to space the wheel away from the wiper without the need for spacers. The wheel sits against the nuts NOT the carrier. I removed one from the stud to show you.

Your choices are using the standard steel wheel nuts on the studs. OK does not give such a large bearing surface as the flat ones.

Have no idea about part number but I know Safari Equip makes them for their wheel carriers. You can either phone them direct on 01274 835500, ask for Tom. Or I could pick up a set for you next time I am at te factory.


Please note these are not cheap as they have to be cut out of flat sheet, threaded individually etc etc.


Since your 90 has only done 5k miles how about asking your dealer for a set?

How about using some large flat washers to space the wheel away from the door,simple and cheap. 2005 Td5 90 XS

I've actually got some standard wheel nuts from the steel wheels behind the wheel and then the boost nuts... but something is still rattling.

Could it be something else rattling? Like the door latch? Can the door latch be adjusted?

Yes you can adjust the door latch and make the door shut tighter, but only a small amount. Loosen the torx screws on the latch and movbe it in a bit. Original Member Pie n Pea Club.

I'm amazed you managed 5k miles before something started to rattle Laughing

if you're planning on keeping it long term it would be worth looking into a wheel carrier of some sort. The standard one on the door is only really for the steel wheels, since a Boost is significantly heavier you'll warp the door, damage the hinges / latch and eventually the back window will randomly smash one day... that's what mine did!
