unless you want to take it to somebody who knows land rover then a lr garage or indy pass rate and test should be the same |

I take mine to Ford, to my mind if you go to a specialist your more likely to failed as they'll know many specific points to look for issues.
Whether that's good or bad is something to consider though. But that's what I do and had straight passes every time. Priced at £40 too. |

just out of interest
there is a few changes being made , vosa are merging with someone else or just changing name to make dvsa testers smart cards are going (the id card they use to log on to do your mot) the vts system is going (the computer they use to put your details in) they going over to normal online system (vts was still on dial up old style system , they said broadband was not secure enough before ! ) I think not sure you maybe able to book online as well soon none of it makes the actual test different |

Any testing station can do it, just remind them it`s permanent four wheel drive.
Transmission braked for brake test, You may have to show the tester how to use the transfer box lever, remind them the hand brake with transmission brake only needs to hit 16 % to pass. Locking up is not required. If they go a bit errmmm they can do a tapley test on it by driving it down the road. I use this test my self if there is any doubt in my mind to 4 wheel drive selection, a lot less trouble than a smashed gearbox, and vosa getting informed. We are a green testing station and I for one want to keep it that way, Already watched one defender come out of a set of brake rollers under test could have been nasty, luckily no one was hurt, and nothing damaged. Excuse the spelling I`am better with spanners and wires. |

hmmm so i rang my usual garage up and said do you do Defender MOT's they are a bit different, and he said as long as it will fit on his ramp he can do it, there is nothing different about defender (4x4) MOT's

Well he's right. I dont understand why you'd be alarmed?
Anywhere can do an MOT on one its no more specialist than any other vehicle on the road  Defender puma dormobile camper |

^^^apart from permanent 4 wheel drive and transmission brake as mentioned above.
If they think the car is the same as any other, that might be something to check. I take mine to the local indie, but it's also the closest...

YEY .....Passed MOT, he failed it initially as he said the ABS light wouldn't extinguish, but I then said to him I don't think it goes off until you drive off, which i proved to him, so he passed it then a bit reluctantly.......is it normal for it to not go off when stationary ?

mot bay had a easy day today , highest mileage in today 543 , lowest 134miles

If the tester you used had any nouse he could have checked the abs sequence via the vts device or the mot method of inspection sheet. I think it`s the vt 40 ( do it every day should really make a note of the sheet reference numbers ) This is printed out by the vts computer If that fails, all testing stations have warning light charts to check the vehicle by, I think its the law I know we have them he can always ring the vosa testing helpline. There is always the vosa mantra if in doubt pass and advise. Excuse the spelling I`am better with spanners and wires. |
