I've done exactly this, only I used the bracket that came with the CB to fasten to the inside of the slopy bit. I have put a gas strut on the lid to keep it open when using the CB.
It's spot on. Cheers Simon |

It was something like this, can't remember the exact rating I got, but it's not very strong.

Added some photos so you can see the installed CB. I did have it on the underside of the lid, but it was a bit hard to see the screen with my poor eyesight..

Very nice Simon. I have ordered the gas strut - will look to do pretty much an identical install to yours.
Thanks for the help. Where did you take you earth and power from? I am planning ti take power by tapping into the cigarette lighter fuse so its ignition switched power Still deciding on where to take earth from |

I installed a fuse box (6 fuses) on the inside of the cubby and took +ve & -ve from the battery. It isn't switched, but I wanted to be able to use the CB and other accessories without the ignition on. I ran the cables though existing grommets in the battery box and under the cubby box, then drilled a hole in the cubby to bring the power to the fuse box.
On the dash board, I've tapped off the back of the cigarette lighter for anything I want switched. Cheers Simon |

Couplands - on a slightly related point (apologies to OP for this thread hijack) what type of wire did you use to power you fuse box. What size were the +ve and -ve wires? 2007 (57) Defender 90 (Sold)
Looking for another to replace it. The road less travelled.... is a muddy one! |

I think I used 1mm or 1.5mm thin wall. It's rated at either 16.5 or 20 amp, which I thought was enough for the CB and a couple of charge points. Hope that helps. Cheers Simon |
