When I purchased my new Defender I thought ....... "Probably don't want to know what mpg it delivers, it might only upset me". After all, if you drive a Defender then it isn't ever going to deliver 40 mpg or prove to be cheap to fill up.

So with 1500 miles on the odometer what's the real life figure for fuel consumption on my 2.2 Defender over the past couple of weeks?

So using old fashioned 'Imperial' units of measure it works out at 28.31 mpg - Can't say I'm disappointed as that includes some stop/start urban crawl as well as a some dual carriageway sections. Not very scientific but it involved driving in some atrocious high wind and on flooded roads, which is unlikely to help fuel consumption.

Ummm... seems pretty bad that... Our 110 2013my Utility did around 380-400 miles when std (until the light came on) and now it's been modified around 370-390 miles now...

Cheers

I get about 12 l/100 km with my 2.4. Bull bar, winch and roof rack fitted. Never got better than that really. Best was 11.5 l/100km I think.

Some wildly differing claims on this thread and a good mix of metric and imperial units just to make comparisons even more challenging .............

Ja swaar, that sounds about right for the old 2.4 - you should get around 600 kms before the thing stops and dies completely - if you lucky maybe 620-630 kms.

But in the 2.2 you got to trap lightly boettie, else you going nowhere near 600 kms - more like 570 or thereabout! ****CENSORED****

With my 90, I get between 290 and 320 miles per 50 litres

Driving at 65mph on longer journeys seems to be the best for fuel economy

Defender & MPG into the same sentence still makes me chuckle! Sorry I do not want to offend but had to say it, it's the devil inside....

That said I have no idea what MPG I get but I get around 350 miles to a 110 tank with 4,000 +miles on the clock. Mine went from UK dealer to Africa via me behind the wheel and touch wood all apart from a noisy thrust bearing and rear door trim poping off all is well Thumbs Up Good old JLR! So hence my chuckle about MPG as all I need to know is range Whistle

Oh and yes my 2.2 sounds like a bag of spanners on tick over and acceleration.... low revs driving is now a fine art I have yet to master due to fly by wire I guess! 90 & Wolf

Mine did 356 miles to the fuel warning light yesterday and took 65 litres to fill, which works out at 25mpg.

I've been measuring it over the last few weeks, have tried it with/without Millers and tried different tyre pressures on the back axle and none if it makes a significant difference to the fuel economy; I'm typically seeing 24-27mpg.

I don't care about mileage. But when i want to know what "normal" behaviour can do i take a look at: https://www.spritmonitor.de/en/overview/25...owerunit=2

I thought the modern car (in this case the 2.2) had improved economy as with all modern cars / drivers.........

I think I know why......everybody cuts corners / drives on the wrong bl##dy side of the road!!!

...perhaps this should be in the grumpy thread?
