Hi all
I'm looking to gain some more articulation but keep the on road performance and found this online http://foundry4x4.co.uk/index.php?route=pr...duct_id=77 I was wondered if this is a good solution or am I just going to have to sacrifice the on road performance. I'm not looking to lift as really want to avoid the complications that brings. If anyone has any advice or experience I would appreciate it. |

I read the article about it not being for 90 (should have made that clear in my question) but is there anything else on the market?

devon 4x4 or gwyn lewis dont waste your money on anything else

Cant go wrong with either gwyns setup or devons.
i used a combination of them but have koni +2 shocks atm 2004 TD5 Defender 90 xs station wagon |

unless you replace the front with something different it wont but also driving up something forwards doesnt give a true degree of how much flex/articulation you can get if he had reversed up there it may have been different

Yep fully aware of that, but a metre of rear travel and almost no front travel isn't an ideal balance 2001 90 HT 6.0LS/6spdAuto.

The Gwyn Lewis set up allows any one will to be off the ground the height of a 50gallon drum with all others touching

unless you got a bit of weight pushing down on the wheels , any wheel just resting on the ground will have very very little amount of grip anyway
if your going to have extreme movement your best to have diff locks to transfer drive to wheels that have grip |

Balance is the answer. It's very easy to unbalance the standard set up by fitting longer shocks and so on - because as has been said the std rear suspension doesn't bind and will allow huge amounts of travel - the double bushes radius arm set up does bind and won't.
Where the travel is imbalanced you get the situation where the weight isn't centred and traction is negatively affected accordingly. From memory there is a video on YouTube showing articulation vs cross axle difflock. The articulation they show though is all at the rear and the vehicle fails on a climb because whilst it can maintain contact with all it's wheels it isn't getting any traction. Making the back so easy to move seems to actually reduce the amount the front moves. I think a little more travel, which is reasonably balanced, could be achieved by going for +2 shocks and keeping the anti roll bar. +2 shock mounts would put the increase in compression - whilst just 2" longer shocks would increase the rebound / drop. For more travel the next step is slotted bushes and after that one link / 3 link set up - but that's a lot of work. |
