Done and dusted. Didn't have to use stainless jubillee clips as pressure release valve operates before pipes would become dislodged but thought it the prudent thing to do.

Hey Mal,

sorry I been away so long - work - too boring to discuss.

Hey, that looks like a blooming masterpiece mate! Well done!!!

Are you at least pleased you have the filter working now? ****CENSORED****

Yes I am pleased. It has a good functionality I think and I missed the first run on these. Have been out for a couple of blasts and it needed a little fettliing and slight movement of the mounting bracket as the drainage outlet was a little too close for comfort to the turbo for my liking. All sorted now. Thank you for your help and advice on this one!

That's what mine looks like Mal - far from any of the really hot stuff and well away from anything too mischievous

Did you put a tap on yours? ****CENSORED****

Not yet Rockjaw just an M10 bolt and a small jubillee at the moment. Can't see me having to drain it too regularly. Keep popping the lid, lifting the filter and looking inside with mounting excitement and don't see anything.

We don't drain ours more than once every 20k-30k (kms that is, not miles) ****CENSORED****

As it's a hobby the mileage I cover I'll need a mobility scooter and a hoist to drain mine when needed. Rolling with laughter If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

is it really worth the extra fitting if you only drain it that much , it must mean the filter and valve fitted as standard are enough

still we like our extra gadgets and gizmos

Point taken, but the tap is quite invisible and hardly a gadget or gizmo. Installing the tap just finishes the job nicely.

You are 100% right though, it really isn't necessary. ****CENSORED****

Munch I don't really know but filtered air must be better than unfiltered surely? Disconnect your crankcase breather on your Defender (either end) and stick your pinkie in the pipe. I was surprised how much crud must pass through it. On a larger scale on the vessels I work on the turbos and filters are removed every 12 months to decarbonise them due to the oil mist being fed back into them from the crankcase breathers, nevertheless we are talking over a ton of oil in each engine by weight. Glad I did the modification it can't do any harm as it's a long-term keeper.

There's some blurb here that claims how it protects the turbo and downstream components.....

We run dozens of these things on 4 continents, plus all the other diesel operated gear we deploy and trust me, there is a big difference between those diesel motors fitted with Provents and those without.

Sure, you won't see much difference in the first 5 - 10k miles, but when you pull a 50k or 100k apart, you will be glad you had one of these fitted. ****CENSORED****

photo of 200tdi separator temporarily fitted to see if it catches anything, clearly not as clever a bit of kit as the provent but cheap as chips

Similar position to mine. Being somewhat smaller in size I would imagine it didn't take long to fit. Nice modification that time will tell if there's any benefits to be reaped. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!
