2007 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 SW Java Black
Nakatanenga Cruise Control for the 2.4 TDCi
Hi Guys,

Hoping someone can help me out as I seem to have made a mistake and bought the cruise control kit with memory from Nakatanenga which comes with incomplete wiring diagrams and the page of instructions with this particular control stalk is in german only.

Emailed Peter who refused to help suggesting that the English wife of the Uk distributor may know a little german and may be able to translate -beggars belief!

Has anyone fitted this kit? If so could you help me out with some wiring questions I'd be very grateful?

1) Throttle harness has a red fused fly lead which isn't shown on the diagrams. Is this used? I would have expected that it should be connected to a switched live from the ignition. If not then how does the unit get powered?

2) Next, other harness shows connections to brake pedal / clutch connectors and speed signal:

i) Is the yellow wire on this harness to be connected to the fused red wire which in turn is then connected to the blue wire that then connects to the Green/Orange (hot) wire on the brake pedal connector?

ii) The orange wire and the white with purple wire do not connect anywhere, correct? Just cut off and isolate? Seems odd that they are included if not required as other unnecessary pins just aren't wired.

3) Where you have to push wires into the back of the connector blocks are the diagrams showing the placement as viewed from the back of the connector? i.e. from the side the wires enter?

If anyone can shed some light I would be very grateful.

Many thanks,

Mark

Oh great, another German supplier's customer service going down the drain. Surprised to hear something like that about Naka, can only hope they will correct their attitude quickly.
As to the wiring, will this thread help?

Hello Eric,

Thanks for the links but sadly the instructions are for Revision 4.3. The ones I have are for Revision 4.5. Mine must be a newer version which uses a control stalk which looks like the one from the Mobile Centre kit.

Call Nakatanenga back, and tell them nicely that no English language instructions as they had with earlier version is not really acceptable, and tell them about this thread on the forum here.

Eric, my email was nice and polite but the response was arrogant and unhelpful.

They do not all speak good English there, so suggest you call them by phone and ask to speak to a gentlemen called Jan. He speaks perfect English and is extremely helpful.

There was absolutely nothing wrong with their English judging by the response emailed.

Anyway I don't want to get drawn into too much discussion about the supplier but instead would appreciate it if we could stick with the wiring issue as I have to either find a way to install it this weekend or return it on Monday.

Thanks again for your replies Eric

Germany
I read your mail yesterday and answered immedeately. I was not in the office because 1st of may is a general holiday in Germany. I did not have the instructions handy and i am not a specialist for this product.

This is what i wrote:

Hi,

today was a public holiday in Germany

Please ask Barbara from overlander4x4.com, she speaks German and might be able to translate.

The wiring diagram is pretty clear, if a cable colour does not appear in the diagram it is not used.

You might mount the place the control stalk as you like, i personally prefer the left side.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen

Peter Hochsieder

I thought the issue was solved by Brendan and Barbara, she is ,by the way, not simply "the wife" she runs the company as well.

IF you have any more problems with our cruise control kit please let us know. We will surely help you as fast as possible. Our specialist for this product is back in the office from monday morning on.

We have sold a lot of these kits and AFAIK this is the only one which is proper working for period. YES the stalk is used by others as well but the ECU is different! WANTED:

Well thank you Peter for your contribution this evening and for anyone looking at your reply they're probably wondering what the fuss was all about? It may look like I am being unreasonable perhaps?

Well you indeed may not have had your instructions 'to hand' so if you would like to check my email to you again then you'll see that I actually emailed you an attachment, for your convenience, of the page from your instructions that was in german.

You could have simply translated or explained the two or three short sentences for me but instead dismissed me and told me to ask Barbara to try to translate it.

Here was my email to Peter:

Hi Peter,

As per your recommendation I contacted Brendan last week and ordered the cruise control. I have received it this morning and have a few questions for you if your don’t mind?

My truck is a LR Puma Defender 2007 TDCi 2.4 110SW

1) Firstly the cruise control has memory and your instructions seite 19/20 are only in German (scan attached). Would you mind translating ( or explaining) the important aspects of this page please?

2) Secondly, your throttle harness has a red fused wire which is not shown on any of the diagrams – where do I connect this please? (I am assuming switched live from ignition?)

3) Next, other harness shows connections to brake pedal / clutch connectors and speed signal:

i) Is the yellow wire on this harness to be connected to the fused red wire which in turn is then connected to the blue wire that then connects to the Green/Orange (hot) wire on the brake pedal connector?

ii) The orange wire and the white with purple wire do not connect anywhere, correct? Just cut off and isolate?

4) You recommend that the connections should be twisted around and covered in solder and then taped up or heat shrink applied?

5) What is the best place to site the control module?

6) The control stalk should be on the left or the right of the column?

I hope to get this fitted this weekend fingers crossed. Any further tips or suggestions as to how best to fit would be very much appreciated.

Best Regards,

Mark (Vaucluse)

And another couple of points,

For one I would never belittle Barbara or anyone for that matter as being just 'the wife' as you put it. I'm not sure most would appreciate your mindset!?

Secondly, I wasn't aware it was a public holiday and any response on a public holiday is indeed to be praised but just to clarify, and by the way I'm not complaining, I emailed you at lunchtime and you replied over five hours later and now claim to all that you replied immediately - how bizarre!

Germany
1) Barbara is a teacher for German language, so she is able to translate and help
2) immedeately meant, as soon as i was aware about your request, my reply came from a mobile device, was terse and quickly typed. Maybee not perfect from my side.
3) I am not a specialist on the cruise controls, the right guy would be Harry (back on monday) or our workshop guys (not english spoken). We have over 3000 parts in our catalogue, 16 Staff and electrickelicty and electronic devices should be performed by specialists. I am a user of these cruise controls, not more. Sorry for this.
5) we are not letting customer service going anywhere down, we treat all our German or international customers the same.

Personally i don't understand why you so nervous. You bought a cruise control from us (a German Company) without asking for english instructions. You received it from our UK distributor, which never sold, neither fitted it before. The kit contains english instructions beside 1 page. Clearly this is our mistake. We will try to help you ASAP, but public Holidays, a long weekend and language barriers are delaying this. You are starting a thread here about a "mistake" buying from us?

If by 'nervous' you mean angry or annoyed then you would be correct.

I had just spend the best part of £500 on your cruise control kit which arrived with very basic diagramatics of which a key page was in german and the other pages are not all that 'pretty clear' as you described in your response and having sent you a polite email asking for a little assistance the reply was curt and unhelpful.

Had you replied:
Very sorry but due to the public holidays my staff who have the specialist knowledge and would be able to answer your questions fully are not back until Monday. Can we come back to you then? ...then all would have been well. This is what any reasonable person would expect.

Reading your reply in response to my polite email it came across as:

Go away and get the uk distributor to translate our instructions as I can't be bothered.
There's nothing wrong with our wiring diagrams and I won't help you with them.

So perhaps now you will see why I'm so 'nervous' as you put it. I said I had made a mistake as I felt your attitude did not deserve my custom.

Hi Daniele,

Thanks for your reply. I'm out shopping with the missus so will try to upload something later for you.

Your diagram confirms what I thought about the red, yellow and blue wires - does that mean the kit gets it's switched live from the orange/green wire on the brake switch?

The throttle harness has a red fused fly lead which neither my diagramatics or yours shows which looked like it may hook up to the ignition switch or did you not have that on yours? Being a very defender specific throttle harness why would it have this if it's not required?

Lastly the control stalk is different which is shown on that page which is in german - I'll try to upload that this evening.

Thanks again,

Mark
