Personal Number
So I've got a very "foreign" number and am thinking that a personalised plate would be better, also it "hides" the true age to all but us experts!

Nothing clever or expensive, I've seen a suitable number P (for Puma) 90 (for wheelbase-ish) plus my initials for £185 from a dealer or £250 from DVLA direct.

BUT, what's the true, total price going to be? Anybody done similar? Thanks. Series 2A 88, 1976 - 1980

You've got to factor in things like assignment fees (£80 I think?), and all the other things that go with it! I can't remember them off the top of my head, but when I last did one a few months ago it wasn't as cheap as I thought it would be Shocked An engine to TDi for!

I bought mine and over and above the purchase price all it cost was £80 transfer fee. That was five years ago. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

A plate for about £185 (about the cheapest on the usual sites) works out at just over £300 when everything inc fees has been done. HTH. 1970 Series 2A 88"

Worst case to factor in will be £105 ive just filled in the forms last week. Hope this helps.
If your getting rid of the other plate (ie. not wanting to keep it) its still £80 to just put a new one on Thumbs Up Defender puma dormobile camper

The DVLA price should be all in, including the assignment fee.
Certainly was last time I got one a few months ago.

Call DVLA and say what combination you are looking for if available they will put up for auction for you in about 3 months time.

This is how we got these Very Happy £250.00 plus fees from memory

DVLA I'd recommend, should be all in price and more simple that way.

Hello chris bb

Just done this too, (actually assigned a Number that was purchased some years ago).

Your price looks to be around the going rate.

If DVLA, then it should include the transfer fee, if not then +£80

Dealer price will (probably) not include transfer fee, so +£80

The process overall will probably be...

DVLA / Dealer will issue a V750 Certificate of Entitlement and you will become the Nominee
this is then returned to the DVLA with your V5C (Log Book) and MOT Certificate (if appropriate)
for processing, you will get a New V5C / MOT Certificate and Tax Disc.

You can use the V750 to have the new Number Plates made up before returning it to the DVLA,
If you don't then you will have to wait for the new V5C to turn up (2-4 weeks typical but could be
more if DVLA workload is high).

If you buy from DVLA it may be possible to shorten this process and just send in your current
vehicle details, (check this if you go down the DVLA purchase route).

The twist may be...

Depending on the Registration Number's current 'status' with a dealer, they may use form V317
from the DVLA, check to establish this, if so then +£105 to price.

Don't laugh but the DVLA help line was actually very good, to confirm details.

It's worth noting that some Number Plates have a restriction of use applied to them,
mine for example cannot be assigned to a vehicle registered before the year 2000.

Lastly (legal point) you don't actually 'own' the Number Plate, just the right to display it. SKIP

And if you choose right you get to hero worship one of your fellow forum members into the bargain!

Thanks everybody, a wealth of valuable information, again. Thumbs Up All I've got to do now is to convince SWMBO that it really is worth it! Shocked

So far, based largely upon input from this forum, I've fitted a "glove box" (SWMBO was most impressed), fitted improved heater air intakes, fitted the ex VW wiper relay and drained the heater system of water by clearing the "nipples" and have since learned how to do it without having a pint of water run down my arm. Laughing

I'll probably go the DVLA direct route, then I'll not be lining quite so many pockets. Series 2A 88, 1976 - 1980

You can get a cheap dateless one for a bit more money, which look much better IMO! Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond.....

I'm currently looking at the Northern Ireland number plates as an option as these cost less

Have a look at http://www.plates4less.co.uk/irish-number-...erBy=price
