Magnetic Sump Plug
Due to my Sunday shenanigans with my dipstick, it became apparent I have a non magnetic sump plug. I have serviced a fair few vehicles and as I remember there was always some swarf/metal fragments stuck to the sump plugs. Much better there than going around the engine.

I googled and have found some stockists, also some on E bay. My concern though, if Land Rover have designed the sump plug as non magnetic, would there be any problems anyone can think of with buying and fitting one.

My main reasons for thinking it would be an improvement is as above, and also it may have held the snapped dipstick end.

Opinions appreciated

In an ideal world there would be no swarf in an engine, so collection of said swarf via a magnet is always going to be a huge benefit. The oil filter will capture it also, two methods of capture is in my opinion better than one Thumbs Up

Not sure if any warranty claims could be dismissed as long as the replacement is fit for purpose and not the cause of the claim I.e. replacement sump bung fails and caused total oil loss... Which I have never heard of Exclamation

if your bit of broken dipstick is still in the sump

One way to remove is find a strong magnet and stick it to bottom of sump then slide magnet towards sump plug hole and if your lucky it would drag the part close to the hole then with a bit of mucking about you may get the bit out

Or other then that you can get large magnet to stick to outside of sump keeping bits there all the time ,but you cant clean them as the bits are stuck to inside of sump , you leave it fitted for life , some auto boxes have the same thing inside

I think the proper ones are called filtermag , I never tried one but seem a good idea
