2007 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 SW Java Black
Tyre Size Choices
Hey guys,

Been running a puma defender now for just a little over two years now and are loving every minute!

Have a question for you... been running Michelin 7.50R16 cross latitudes on 5.5" steels and will be looking to replace the tyres later this year but not sure what with? Have been thinking of getting a set of wolf steels which, which correct me if I'm wrong, are 6" wide which would allow me to either fit 7.50R16's or 235/80 16's? The question really would be for those of you who have had both size options what noticeable differences can I expect in feel and handling if any?

Many thanks in advance,

Mark

Wolfs are actually 6.5 inches wide, and I think the maximum recommended width is 255, although some will debate that 265s are fine on it.

I have Wolfs on 235 85s, which is possibly the most common size in this day and age. You won't notice much of a difference, 235s are I think taller, (assuming they are;) meaning acceleration will be slightly slower, but top speed slightly increased. But it's all so marginal.

Turning circle will also be a bit worse, but who cares?! Laughing 1998 110 300Tdi White Hard Top

Hi Interlet,

Thanks for your response. It does however raise another question for me. If the wolf rims are 6.5" wide and it's usual to fit Michelin 7.50r16 XZL's then can you also fit cross latitudes in the same size? There was another thread recently about fitting cross latitudes on boost rims and the reply was you couldn't. I assume that's because boost alloys are 7"?

Assuming that you can run 7.50r16's on either 5.5" or 6.5" then why would you or LR choose one or the other?
