The service interval is 12,000 miles or 12 months; whichever is soonest.
So the 12,000 miles has not arrived, and I am assuming the 12 months is not up yet? Was your car a factory order or 1 from stock? If the car was a stock car the service light should be calibrated/reset at the pre delivery inspection, this may be when the car arrives at the dealer, not at point of delivery/collection. Regards Mark. |

Hi Mark,
The car was in the show room so a stock item and Ive had it for around 6/7 months. I understand what you are saying My only other concern was Im sure I read somewhere that the engine somehow based its "oil service" reminder on style of driving/oil quality etc - I guess I got that wrong then Thanks alot |

With the higher speed driving style I would not be worried so much by DPF issues.
For the fact it was a showroom car I would imagine you have the answer - the service light was not reset before delivery - this is fairly common. The thing to check for on DPF cars is an increase of engine oil; i.e. contamination with diesel. This is not only bad for bearings - but if the level gets too high the engine can go for a little run on its own diesel/oil mixture; this is usually terminal!! That said I try and change mine every 6,000 miles - I intend to keep it! |

The service indicators are set at the factory apparently, sometimes wrongly. Our Disco4 is flashing up 'Service Required' even though it's not even 6 months old yet. An engine to TDi for!

Hello WAFU
I would get the Service Lights checked at LR, asap, if only for peace of mind. (especially as this vehicle is around 6 months old). I had a 300tdi 90 CSW from new and Serviced with LR until 60K, but changed the oil midway between each 12000 mile Service or each 1/2 year myself, I am convinced it's one of the best service steps to take. The 300tdi (1994) was actually taken back to LR for a oil change at 1500 miles, this practice is claimed to be now not necessary, but early ware and oil contamination can be negative factor. At this point of ownership consider changing the oil, irrespective of the type of driving you are doing. SKIP https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic83242.html |
