Checker Plate Dilemma...
So I have a 110 XS 2.2 CSW, and already the kids (and Mrs M) have scuffed the sill plates (or whatever they're called properly) so I'm thinking of fitting Checker Plate... Had Silver OEM on a Dark Blue 90 before and it looked great because it was the only mod - full set.

I have roof rack OEM, Winch, and RAI, NAS Bumper.

Its Santorini... Do I go silver or black or absolutely not at all - the dilemma!

Pics in support of the choice please...

Questions are: -

Colour?
Which make/supplier?
How much (not cost but areas covered)?

I'm lost on this one...

Cheers in advance all Bow down Bow down

+1 I hate checker plate - imho it's only ok to fit for covering up damage

Checker plate is the most terrible thing you can possibly put on a defender IMO. Have the sills re painted then have them wrapped in anti stone chip vinyl Thumbs Up 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

IMO it has it's place for protection but other than that...
I have wing tops, sills and rear quarters on body. That's all. All areas that could suffer damage.

+1 dislike chequer plate, but would go for black if I had to on a black defender....or take sills off and put rock sliders on instead..... 1959 Series 2 Ragtop

+1 I dislike chequer plate, typically used to cover dents on wing tops that dent sooo easily.

Although it has it's place on some working/expedition defenders where people walk on the vehicle. Sills are quite a good idea for an everyday family defender but you can go too far. I reckon satin black sills would look ok. The price and quality varies, genuine LR is pretty spendy.

Its each to thier own, I have Silver Chequer Plate (from mammoth on the sills on a Galway Green 90 and wish I had not fitted it. If I were to go back in time I would have used clear vinyl DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy

O have anodized plating on my santorini black 110

I think the offset of colour works very well. The all black thing does look good but for me its a bit too much one colour

Or rock sliders, but that's a bit OT for some people.

I tried to be a chequerplate minimalist, until I crumpled both rear wings within a month. I agree with rear quarter...I also stuck some discreet plating for stepping plates on my bumper because every time I climbed onto it, the paint would chip off. 1998 110 300Tdi White Hard Top

'Each to their own' I too am obviously in the 'like camp.' Wing tops handy for laying tools and hot drinks on whilst you're working. Bonnet for easier loading/unloading of rack (saves stepladders) the rest came with the vehicle. Black may have perhaps been a preference if I had a choice from the beginning but with a regular wipe with a damp rag and vinegar remains like new.
