My 90XS is a worker, landfill sites, road works, quarries etc and without chequer plate on sills and wingtops would suffer from rigger boot scuffing, spanner scrapes, dents and all. Would rather not use it but without it the 90 would be scruffy. Black Mammouth 3mm plate on Santorini Black. It's like putting Waxoyl on the outside, a necessity for some of us. Use Rivnuts and gasket on wingtops.

I always use gasket it stops the crud from accumilating behind it. When I fitted the Entreq door strips I had to remove the sill chequerplate that didn't have any gasket. I was amazed at the 'dirt gasket' behind it and used a wallpaper scraper to remove the initial build up. I used butyl pondliner I had left over to make some gaskets before refitting. The bonnet I used the gaskets supplied and sealed up using black Sikaflex on the rest. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

So does the black wear off, if it's anodised then I guess it will scratch and eventually wear away? If it's silver that matters less? |

When I did No 1 I used silicon rubber and wiped the edge with petrol... Worked a treat until the silicon began to degrade. I'm sure with care a decent seal to stop the mud et al that just rubs evening away as inevitably the metals will move against each other... |

The kit came from MM 4x4 in Droitwich (the wing tops are done too). I didn't order it directly myself, but had it added on when it was in for the lid over the load area. 2013 Defender 110 XS DCPU
