I just can't see what they add? Besides being illegal, surely if they do push a branch out of the way, as soon as it passes past them it will just whip back at the windscreen/a pillars/side windows and do as much damage (probably more) anyway? Cheers, David

Again they may be legal, but what is illegal is causing harm to pedestrians through unnecessary attachments to your vehicle.
Its NOT illegal to own a carving knife, what IS illegal is to stick it in someone. As Dirty Harry would say "When a naked man is chasing a woman through an alley with a butcher knife and a hard-on, I figure he isn't out collecting for the Red Cross." |

Quite correct they are legal, but shouldnt be! They say about dangerous steel bumpers but seem to have not realized some irresponsible 4x4 drivers either through naivety or just thinking they look good are prepared to drive around with cheese wires attached to their cars on public roads. A defender will hurt enough at 30mph anyway without needing to cut them up aswell! ![]() Last edited by SailingTom on 21st Mar 2014 4:42pm. Edited 1 time in total |

If there's no particular benefit, I don't think I'll bother..

the thing is they aren't dangerous on a green lane. and they do help push the branches up over your screen. anyway we can go round and round on this one like many other subjects!
![]() ![]() back to OP. as much as im in favour of them, i agree with Tom, a softop probably gonna suffer going through low overhanging branches, the cables will help clear your screen but then your canvas is going to have to deal with said branches!! My 109 thread my youtube channel |

If you think you're going to need them you can always get a set made by Bushcables that can be removed and put back in minutes.
As gmack says, they suite zero purpose on the road, but can be invaluable through low hanging branches in the rough or green landing. As for the soft top then that is a different one to overcome. At least if a branch you didn't expect hits the cable it should give you a bit of warning not to go further or take a different route. Yes, as some say, they are dangerous, but then a raised vehicle is more dangerous for lots of different reasons. Some also tell you to drive it like you stole it....., or what about having a winch on the front or even headlight protection? None is going to be friendly if you run into someone. It's your Defender to do with as you see fit. |
