bush cables
Has anyone fitted bush cables to a soft top defender.. is it possible or worth doing?. I've had a look on www.bushcables.com and have e-mailed them to ask but as yet haven't had a reply.

Why do you want to fit them?
If it's for a permanent installation for use on public roads you'd best have a serious talk with your insurers before you start.

No point at all in my eyes
Horrible dangerous things that should be banned from the roads, far worse than any rubbish about bull bars.
Pointless on a soft top to, as if the branches are going to crack your screen they will be ripping your hood whatever.
Can you guess I dont have or ever want the awful things Thumbs Up Defender puma dormobile camper

A lane is a public highway.

BOAT's are still public though no different to a tarred road. Quite why you'd want to drive through brush that thick god only knows.
A, Damage will be horrendous bush cables or not.
B, if it's a public area (which all are or it's illegal again unless private land) then how are you going to see people or anything in front of you? Whistle Shocked

Abroad I can see their use when need be in certain countries but over here it's just not required IMO.
Kill someone with those on and I'd imagine you'd be going down for it or facing major negligence.

Two sided coin I will admit but a bull bar serves many more purposes to outweigh the negatives that bush wires do. WeWillWinπŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

I saw someone who used these while laning. When they hit a large branch, they ripped the front wings up. Be careful.

cheers

the ones i had had a weak point that would break before anything else.
how fast are you driving on the lanes?? i tend to do know more than 5 mph so its actually really easy to see people oncoming!
in my part of the world there are many overgrown and over hanging branches. not everyone drives a sparkly puma! bush rash doesn't bother me! cracked windscreens do though!!
so i would be happy to fit them again to my defender!
as for illegal on lanes well technically yea!

I agree with the sentiment of G-mack, but when I was in my old jCensoredp offroader it was very much a case of what you are saying, but that survived fine with a bigger screen because as you point out your going slowly anyway so could see people and the big branches at screen height? Whistle Dont start me on roof lights either, just dont Laughing

Again though to the Op its still pointless as if its that bad he'll be ripping his Hood on all these branches or getting a face full of them when its off, so can only guess they'll be more for show if fitted so the correct answer is on a soft top they have no worth at all, unless you want a nice windscreen at the expense of few hundred pound hood each outing and be on first name terms with exmoor trim! Proper ones like with the Camel Trophy running from the bullbar to the roofrack so both strong points.

I see them fixed to the wings on defenders but I think that will cause more damage then do any good.

I never had problems with the Dutch MOT as they are within the line off the car. They made more problems about the dixon bates on the front bumper and my license plate position.

I drove through a lot off countries in Europe and never had a question asked. Roel

I think the "no questions asked = they are ok" is a little myopic.

I am sure plenty of questions would be asked if you had an accident with a pedestrian and they were chopped in 2 by them!!!
