You might have to do a bit of work depending on the sim. I put a sim from Ovivo mobile in and had to put it in an unlocked phone to 'activate' it. Also you'll need to turn off the answer phone otherwise the 'textback' might not work. The Ovivo Freedom 0 seems the best bet - £20 up front (£5 for the sim and £15 credit) for that you get 300 mins (not really applicable) 300 texts and 500mb of data each month forever - for free. If you go over the 300 texts per month which isn't very likely, then you can top up, but remember there is already £15 credit on the account. It seems that this is paid for by adverts popping up when you are browsing the web on the phone (but for this application not an issue as its in a tracker) It'll be interesting to see how it pans out. As far as the tracker is concerned that seems to work quite nicely so far. There is an optional movement sensor which wouldn't be a bad addition, so you'll get a text sent and the siren sounds if its activated (optional and you could connect to standard horn), also you can connect to door opening sensor and ignition to get similar results. For now mines simply connected to live and earth while I see how it works. I'll probably get it installed fully by a proper bloke at some point, then you can turn off the fuel supply , sound a siren etc. I'll most likely get one of these for the caravan when it has its first outing. Its easy to operate with one of the iphone apps (or directly by text) Dave W (IIRC) on here wrote one but my iphone is on an earlier ios so I got another version elsewhere and that works a treat. One thing to bear in mind is that (if you are using an older iphone/ios like mine without the googlemaps app installed) the googlemaps link sent in the texts will take you to a map on the apple maps app, but shows the nearest road/property rather than the exact location (ie when its at my house it shows it a being on the nearest road which is 100 yds away). Cut and paste the info from the text into one of the apps and its spot on. There may be a way of changing that but I haven't found it yet (yes I have, its update my iOS and install googlemaps app ) Definitely worth the money, probably not as good as an installed 'proper' setup with tracking staff etc, but as said before you get what you pay for and its better than nothing. It appears that with a bit of jiggerypokery you can track it on the internet but thats a bit more involved. When you look at the co-ords in Google maps you should [hopefully] see a grren arrow which is the location of your tracker and a red marker which is Google maps marker for nearest road/landmark. Looking in satellite view the green arrow is only a couple of meters away from my 90 when parked at home, and the red marker is a hundred yards or so up the road showing the road which passes near me. Although haven't quite sorted out the 'movement alarm' aspect yet I have managed to work out how to set the unit to UK time.
text the message time zonexxxxxx 0 (where xxxxxx is the password) 0 appears to relate to GMT so I guess it'll need resetting when the clocks change - response text is time OK All good fun and I guess this is the type of thing the paid for systems do for you DJ 1989 200tdi 90 csw 2011 110 usw Orkney grey Buy British 🇬🇧 Defender Clothing Designs available at http://www.rangesports.com/acatalog/Defender-Stuff.html |

Newbie year, just joined the forum, as acquiring 90 or 100 very shortly, to replace dead Disco TDi !
Unless I a comment, is this unit turned on/off by the alarm/ ignition, or do you have to physically set it very time you leave the vehicle. i.e., if I'm in/out the vehicle multiple times a day, will it keep sending me text's although I'm driving it ? |

Hi Hawky
No you don't have to do anything, it is permanently 'live'. It's default state is for you to interrogate it by calling it, hanging up, and getting an SMS which give co-ordinates you can view on Google maps. It has many options where it will continually send you texts e.g. when it moves a user defined distance, or it goes over a user defined speed etc. Gavin |

Hi Gvin,
Perhaps I should clarify..... If it's always live, I assume when you park up for the night, you need to send it a SMS to activate, say, if it moves a user defined distance (say 100m ...e.g., a theft !) But if you then get in the vehicle in the morning, do you have to then SMS it to turn that parameters off ? ... otherwise, if you forget, you might get SMS messages every 100m on a 10 mile trip ! |
