Caterham, I will be down in Wythall for a week beginning the 21st of April (going to see Dave to get Landyglass fitted.), and if you are still having issues then, you could always pop around to where we are staying and I will plug some tools in and have a little look see if you wish? Thumbs Up
...............what tools you got that different to what he's already tried ?

The same tools as the dealer probably (SDD and IDS legacy) plus a MSV2 (prefer the live data screen) also if the fault can be narrowed down I can plug in my Pico scope and base the readings received on the multitude of readings/values I have saved from known working components. Thumbs Up

I've become so suspicious of my def with all the problems I'm actually wondering now if there's anyway I've ended up with one of the early engines like what Spudfan had ie the ones with the dodgey oil jets

Not a chance on a 2011, unless someone found a 4 year old engine lying around the factory!

sorry but never know a egr to cause noises , just smoke , power issues

with all the money you have throw at it and hassle , why not get it mapped and egr off

They can do, but not knocking. Faulty EGR sometimes does chatter and cause a scraping sound but;
A. It's occasional not constant so occurs at irregular intervals although every few minutes not once in a blue moon.
B not very loud at all except for if your specifically listening for it.

if you got a noise from the egr valve yes but then its knackered .im talking causing engine noise

The egr......I suspect is ok. while stationery if I rev the engine to about 2k I believe I can hear the egr open then close and I get chukka chukka when I turn the engine off

The knocking I refer to is occasional and as I've always thought sounds like the knocking I'd expect to hear from wrong fueling.....

Def went in for replacement breather on fuel tank which apparently ended with tank removal....car ran a treat for a day or so after....overtaking cars and all sorts which for anyone who knows me means something was out of the ordinary (ordinarily good in this instance)

When I did service / fuel filter..again immediate improvement but short lived.

Mostly happens first thing in the morning but has happened a few other times..can pull off and seems like the engine takes a few seconds to catch up.....bit like the clutch is a great big rubber band and it's unwinding???

But the annoying part is the knocking.........sometimes low revs in top gear and no hesitation, just smooth like you'd expect from a modern diesel...........other times in what 'I' would expect to be as close as to make no difference the same circumstances and the fueling seems to be all wrong????

I've wasted plenty of money already so it may come as no surprise I'm considering 'wasting more '.....
How much to replace the engine loom?
Whistle

I will be massively interested to know if Lorryman can sort this out for Caterham, try imagining how frustrating it would be owning his Land Rover DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy

Blackwolf....i'm sure u r iright ...not a chance but with my paranoia I suspect perhaps has been rotting in a field for a long time just waiting for some mug with big ears to turn up ....

Frustrating is nothing compared to the pyschoatric costs.

Did you change the VCV? The symptoms sound lot like a faulty VCV. Perhaps you've found another faulty one.

erm....the blank is still there hence the mil light.

if I get shot of this it'll be back to a Caterham.

within reason the only couple of vehicles that interest me at the moment are the def and Caterham.
