A word of caution....maybe you should perhaps care...even a little. I would! Something is amiss!
Wonder how receptive Land Rover are going to be when you explain your expert diagnostic techniques and engineering prowess? If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

If you've still got the blank fitted you'll have some explaining to do. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

If l/r read this won`t they show you the door.
As for knocking noises egr just recycles gases it can`t make a knock unless its stuck wide open and fills the inlet manifold, causes detonation due to excessive upper cylinder temps but by that time you would notice a massive lack of power and it hunting like a pig not to mention p0402 etc being stored or other such dtc . perhaps the engine needs a little time to run with out modifications on a normal setting so the ecu can adjust all adaptive parameters and get to know its self, settle down then readjust its self along with drive cycle learning. |

So reading this thread further down, I see that the MIL finally came on now. Euhhh, did you rev it up to 8k rpm for it to do that? I have no idea of what 4k rpm would mean or would sound like with my Defender, don't think it has ever been over 3k rpm. Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

till recently mine did know what 3k was..........
yep the MIL did come on this morning so I guess I'm reliefed to see that..... back to the noises I suspect as has always been the there's different things at play here and the goal posts keep moving so to speak, this together with never having had a level playing field to base my comments along with some issues being intermittent its incredibly difficult to diagnose what the hell is going on. so go the def back after the turbo was replaced and things seemed to be really good, engine response was greatly improved and this was evident in partly in gear changes being much easier as matching engine speed with road / transmission speed was far easier. suspicious of something still not being right I fitted the blank to try and eliminate the egr as I've long been suspicious of this. First impressions were great, all seemed much smoother and particularly at higher revs ie 2k +. unfortunately time has now proven my intermittent problem still lurks. the only thing that 'seems' to be consistent is the fact that the issue only seems to happen when the engine is warm. with regards to the comment above about LR not wanting to know in respect of the egr being in place....well to be honest they've had over 3 years to trace the problem and haven't managed to I don't hold out much hope of them finding it now. I've become so suspicious of my def with all the problems I'm actually wondering now if there's anyway I've ended up with one of the early engines like what Spudfan had ie the ones with the dodgey oil jets? my other thought relates to the wiring loom / ecu (ecu what replaced but who's to say it was done right....ie dirty terminals or even poorly fitted? apologies guys who suggested I was talking jibberish about the egr - I dismissed you but it would appear you were bang on there must be someone out there that can either give me a damn good explanation for why I believe there's an intermittent problem or find it / fix it? |

Caterham, I will be down in Wythall for a week beginning the 21st of April (going to see Dave to get Landyglass fitted.), and if you are still having issues then, you could always pop around to where we are staying and I will plug some tools in and have a little look see if you wish?
