Chainsaws...
Bloody things are so temperamental, run fine for a hour then no matter what you do they wont start. Swear at it call it every name under the sun, take the spark plug out, put it back in, still wont start, girlfriend comes out with cup of tea, gives it a go and starts first time. Me thinks its time for a new one as the neighbours "MJ Tools" one worked far better than My Stihl One. That Said My Stihl one is about 30 years old now.... |

Stripped it and found the problem.
The Diaphragm which uses the exhaust to pump the chain oil had fractured and was pumping a squirt of chain oil into the cylinder on every other revolution. Needless to say, chain oil being intentionally sticky, it is exactly not what you want in a one stroke cylinder. Have been looking at the neighbours one on line - having used it and found it to be fantastic I'm seriously considering it. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221388316304?ssP...1423.l2649 |

Cheap chainsaws are cheap for a reason. That one won't be running in 30 months let alone 30 years. Just get the stihl repaired and serviced. It'll transform it.

+1 - been doing a heavy work cycle recently, taking some pretty big trees down, and cutting into pieces for the wood burner (next year after a good seasoning).... Only problem I've had (so far after 3-4 years) is the bar (chain tensioner) bolt has come loose at the wrong end.. Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |

I have an older Husqvarna 61 with a 20" bar. It has gone through periods of heavy use and then long periods of storage, in fact I dug it out of the back of the garage a couple of months ago after nearly 10 years of storage. I replaced the fuel pickup pipe as the last one had literally melted, chucked some petrol in it, pulled the cord for a few times with the plug out to pull the petrol through and lubricate it a little. Put the plug back in and a couple of pulls later it was running again.
I remember buying it for just under 250 over 30 years ago, it certainly doesn't owe me much now. It's just a pity that I haven't worn as well. |
