My 300tdi that has covered round about 108000 miles has started to make a noise when I depress the clutch pedal and change gear and again when I release the pedal this occurs in all gears not sure where to start looking or how also a bit concerned if it could cause more problems if I drive it to far now I have noticed it.
I also have a problem with my speedo I am sure it reads to high and also at lower speeds it jumps around a lot and does not settle back to zero always rest just below the 10 mph mark (I know it's not to much of a problem does make me think I have got a very fast defender though) |

Check your propshaft flange bolts.
Check your A frame ball joint. ![]() |

Also check bushes and the state of your diffs.

I had a horrid clunk which I had down as a failing prop or diff. Turned out to be the A-arm ball joint.
If doing it yourself I can thoroughly recommend the OEM quality complete fulcrum and ball joint assembly, rather than farting about trying to extract the corroded-in ball joint. ![]() ![]() |

Lie underneath the car and get someone to rock the defender back & forth, check all your bushes as he's doing it. That's how we establish what bush if was if that makes sense?
