How do I disconnect the battery without the alarm going off?
The manual says that I should:- turn on the ignition, turn it off again... remove the key....and disconnect the battery within 15 seconds and the sounder should not sound..... ..... but it does!!! Tried various combinations of keys on/off - in/out without luck Anyone got any ideas? Jools 2003 90 XS SW Support Devon & Cornwall 4x4 Response - www.buy.at/dc4x4 |

Hi Jools,
That is the correct way to disconnect the battery. You maybe need to move the key fob further away from the ignition barrel when you remove the key, thats all i can think of. When i developed the Cruise kit that you are fitting i didnt disconnect the battery, i just put that in the instructions as a safety thing while working on the wiring. All the wires that you need to solder onto are ignition live only so there shouldnt be any current to them to cause any problems as long as the key is removed. Having said that its always best to be safe and i would never fit a kit to a customers car without disconnecting the battery first. Pete. |

Just thought of something else too, it says in the land rover manual to disconnect the negative first but in my instructions it says to disconnect the positive. I cant see how it makes any difference but it might be worth trying.

Thanks Pete
yes it is the negative I was removing..... I was standing outside on the passenger side - so removing the key right outside and it still didn't make any difference I took the same approach - after trying for about 15 minutes to disconnect the battery in silence I decided that it would have to stay connected rather than annoy the neighbors any more!! I was getting on fine before it started to rain!! Jools 2003 90 XS SW Support Devon & Cornwall 4x4 Response - www.buy.at/dc4x4 |
