Disco calling ??
Hi all,I've had my utility for nearly two years now (27000 miles) its great and does everything I need it to do, I work as a floorlayer and it copes fine with that and I deerstalk and pick up with four dogs throughout the shooting season and you couldn't wish for a better vehicle for that, but here's my thing I'm now thinking that a comercial disco would do all the same but in more comfort !! I've had a defender for the last 15 years and love them, not sure what to do as they are stopping manufacturing them will I regret it , any thoughts please would be good.
Cheers

The Disco's are ace! They'll do what you need, but in a damn site more comfort than a Defender! It's up to you really, based on not only your needs, but also your wants! Thumbs Up An engine to TDi for!

Discovery just keeps getting better. They can do anything apart from fit in a car park. The latest one is doing mid thirties to the gallon.

To be honest one of my reasons for not getting one is what my customers would think of one sitting on their drive way, I think people have a different opinion of a defender than a disco, or should I not worry about it ?

I wouldn't worry too much! Well, it depends on what line of business you're in I suppose! An engine to TDi for!

I had a disco 3 a few years ago no one batted an eyelid. However they are looking a lot flasher. I nearly brought a sport. I had it on test and everyone went on about it. Thing was the 110 I brought was new and more expensive than the sport.

So I stick to defenders because no one comments on it. Even 4x4 anti people don't mind you having one.

What does Disco say to your customers? Bit flash and is my bill going to be inflated to pay for this extravagance? If you turned up on one of our sites the first question I'd ask is "Am I paying extra for this guy's overheads"? Or might I think "Here comes a successful craftsman in a new Disco who is reaping the benefits of his hard labour".

Well, it depends. Have you been driving Defenders for the past 15 years and started at 30 and now are 45 or started at 45 and you are about to turn 60?

If youre about to turn 60 go for the disco you deserve it, have worked many years and have matured your way past a Defender. If you are 45 its about time you fit an auto transmission, upgrade your suspension and seats and keep enjoying life. So when you turn 60 it will still be comfy. Some of us will never mature to get past a Defender even if we move to the city. The Defender gives such a feeling of safari driving and that connection you make with the machine makes you not want to ever drive anything else.

In my case when I drive any other vehicle I feel it is just weak and cant wait to get behind the wheel of my Defender.

Stick to your Defender, a disco 4 is not a proper 4x4 it has independent suspension. Period. Just my opinion, hope whichever is your choice suits your needs and makes you happy. After 2015 you will always be able to get a fancy soft roader. After
2015 the Defender will be just a painting on the walls of LR dealerships.

In the brochure maybe! In the real world low 20s average, 18 if you get stuck in traffic or like to press on a bit!

In all seriousness though it should have an affect and I wouldn't dismiss it.
Ive nearly been tempted to tdv8 range rovers a couple of times and it was that aspect that put me off, as you cant haggle over a few quid I feel.
Other thing is everone would think it was my parents Laughing

I dont think disco's are to bad for it as are seen as a nice car, but to most are still seen as more expensive than a defender whatever the age (of the 3 and 4 I mean) Defender puma dormobile camper

Well you've got a problem then! On our SDV6 2013MY, it'll easily average 33/34, especially on a long smooth run! An engine to TDi for!
