United Kingdom 2008 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Tonga Green
5 happy years of Puma ownership & driving. Ongoing.
My insurance renewal came due & reminded me I've had my 2.4 for 5 years already. Mr. Green

Done 19000 miles, most country lanes & off road. I've had no mechanical or electrical failures at time of writing. Only needed replacements have been a rear NAS tow bumper, several wiper blades & brake pads.

Most money spent has been on labour+VAT. Most expensive single modification is still the bigger tyres (255/85) I use.

Largest annual single charge is the VED. Evil or Very Mad

2014...I hope to try out my winch somewhere, do solo greenlaning (done the LRE trecs so much I know them in my sleep) , have all the accessories I bought last year fitted.... and pass the MOT. Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. Ta ta Defender

Had mine for 13 months and have 16k on the clock. No serious issues to report, just some minor bits and pieces.

No sweeping. There are spiders, there was a mouse that hitched a ride in a bale of hay. Lives somewhere in my garden, if its avoided the large local cat population & owls. Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Good to hear Smile

The puma is a great car, you'd be forgiven for thinking not, reading this forum, but then I guess this is where people come with their problems mostly. Fewer people post 'all is well' then 'how do I fix this?' etc. Cheers, David

Hope Martin gets his latest problems sorted pronto. The gearbox change on the Puma certainly isn't the fastest or slickest - and if it was a sports car i'd be moaning - but it's an olde worlde design of off-roader with transmission slap - so you have to be realistic about how good it could ever get.

Bought mine with just under 25k kms (15k miles) on the clock. Now 11 months later I have just under 61k kms (38k miles) on the clock with a fair bit off off roading. No issues worth mentioning.

Same here. 160,000Kms in 6 1/2 years.

Only a few minor niggles but nothing that has stopped the show. Real pleasure!

Largest charge is the diesel.

Are you still taking it back to Sturgess Leicester? Mine was supplied by them and it took my local dealer 2 days to put it right. It now drives like a different vehicle; the improvement is remarkable!

At the risk of hijacking someone else`s thread I will keep it short,
Yes its back at its second home.
Emailed mike at lr await response,
rang sturgess you have to go thru lr assist, man from lr turned up at 10 o clock had a look at it explained the problem ok he said that's a bit poor sir (well you can imagine the talk between two mechanics about a leaky gearbox and poor quality of service) apparently he was at a dealership down south when a customer just lost it and the police were called to calm things down.
I must admit this is how I feel but you can`t do much from a prison cell !
Anyway all booked in was ready to have a calm and mild chat with the service manager but he was off site, will ring him tomorrow. On the up side the disco 4 is quite nice, I`am beginning to wonder if I have gained caterhams gremlins if so please leave my engine alone that's been ok.

Puma clutch is the best Defender one. (Series were lighter but...)

I've never had a modern car with a slick gear change. 1st was a Hillman Avenger, then Fiat Tipo, then Austin Metro, followed by Suzuki Vitara (1995) & lastly the Defender. So am used to slow methodical shifts, & unspectacular acceleration on 4 wheelers. Next/last/also will be an automatic (like a TD5 Disco 2 if there are any unrotted ones around). Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. Ta ta Defender
