ultragauge fault clearing
If one unplugs the EGR the engine light will come on. Not a good thing since you dont know if something else happens.

Can one clear this fault code / light with a ultragauge?

Afraid not. The illuminated MIL and logged DTC's (P1402, P1409) are reporting the fact that the there is an issue with the EGR. If you managed to clear them they would reappear almost immediately because the EGR is not responding because you have unplugged it. Thumbs Up

How about an EGR blanking plate with a hole in it. Will the MIL light still luminate? Or does it see some flow.
What should the size of the hole be?

You could just go for an EGR closed remap or do a search on here. There are loads of threads and information, the blank hole will purely depend on what condition and environment your truck runs in.

EGR closed would be worth it and pay the money rather than faring about with it, it's a real pain. ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️

A Remap here is SA is about 250 pounds. A bit much for me since I'm looking at upping the intercooler as well...

I agree its a better option but a blank is about 5 pounds...

Well you'll have to go for either a series of blanks or start with one with a small hole say 10mm and gradually increase the size of the hole by 2mm each time until you can drive it for a week or so and your MIL light stays out. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

yes that's what I figured...

I'll also take out the Cat. On this note will DECAT effect engine to the extent that a remap is needed? Or will OEM Engine management simply adjust as a result of lower back pressures?

It will adjust. Do a search under 'Decat' loads and loads of information. Thumbs Up If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Hi Maruis

On my previous 90 I removed both the Cat and Center cilencer and to be honest, it made no real objective difference except for the increased turbo whistle when changing gears and the drone in the cab at highway speeds.

I then took my car for (probably) the best remap currently in SA (also disabling the EGR) as well as a locally made upgraded intercooler.

I then took the 90 and compared it to a friends 90 (same MY, both Fire and Ice, same mods) who had a remap and intercooler from a very prominent UK company.

Tests done on the same day, with the same technician on the same dyno, with the same temp corections, etc, etc... results are "on the wheel figures" and not corrected to show "flywheel" results (for fly wheel results ad 25%-30% VERY roughly):

My 90
Kw 83 (144BHP)
Nm 366

His 90
Kw84 (147BHP)
Nm341

So pretty much the same but way better than standard.

Get that remap and EGR closed! It is worth it.

Having said that......on my new XTech I have only done the intercooler upgrade and not the remap since the Defender is going very lekker without the remap at the moment.

Regard so you say no real fuel consumption change?
What about turbo lag?

In fact, rather a small improvement in turbo response. Kicks in at around 100 or 200rpm earlier.

No change in consumption even with the decat, silencer out, intercooler upgraded and remap.

My average with the 90 (before and after mods) was around 8.2km/l or 12.2l/100km

With the 110 I get (also before and after intercooler) 8.6km/l or 11.5l/100km.

Above figures are 99% altitude driving between 1500m-1800m MASL

Thats rather in contrast to what the majority of guys are seeing.

Well the intercooler upgrade is in any case a good thing for us in the hotter parts of the world.
