Defender,...Final Order Dates for Australia.
A member of the Aussie Landrover forum (Aulro) has just posted up Defender "Final Order Dates", relative to Australia, that he says, have been set out in a Dealer Memo from Solihull:
130 Cab/Chassis, Final Order date March 2014 for Aug 2014 delivery, then no more.
110 Hardtop, as above.
90 & 110 Wagons Final Order Date, Aug 2014, for 2015 Delivery.
What do you guys make of this?....Surely similar advices relative to UK Dealers would have been sent?....Any Dealer comment?
Cheers, Pickles.

This kind of goes against a lot of the recent press release about the black/silver option packs and that the 2015 130 will come with ABS and/or TC whichever it was.

However i have read on here one specific dealer in the UK only had 35 cars to sell before end of production

I seem to remember that Germany has asked for and got an exemption from the EU from one vehicle manufacturer to further extend production of a vehicle as it would have a negative economic effect. Again it is only in the back of my head but this was originally over a compliance issues similar the the defender problems.

Given that we "gold plate everything" in the UK, If any body could dig this up perhaps the forum could set up a petition to Parliament via the Government web site? It only needs about 100,000 electronic signatures to go into the pot for consideration and i am sure that getting the numbers would not be a problem given the contact level of this and other Land rover web sites. In any case given that jaguar/Land rover are the darling of the Government at present ( the Pm was due with them recently if it had not been for the floods!) and given the political sensitivity over Europe and perhaps the Mantra of "giving the public what they want and most political parties already gearing up for the general elections this could have an interesting effect.

Can any of the Politico's out there do a bit of research and get this up and running?
I must emphsise that this this exemption for a German vehicle manufacturer was just something I have dragged up from memory. and comes from couple of months ago only but I have no detail so it may be a waste of time

Nice idea but I think we need to accept that fact that JRL no longer want to produce the Defender and no amount of petitioning will get them to change their mind. The marketing men and accountants will have shown the top brass figures for a negative impact on RR/RRS/Disco/Freelander/Evoque sales that continued production of the Defender will have/has had, hence why it is being dropped.

Emissions and crash safety is just smoke and mirrors IMHO. 2011 110 USW

Dulwich Man,

I do believe that that was Mercedes, but it's not just a couple of months it's a few years.

Ok guys, but surely your Dealers are going to want to know when they can no longer accept orders, so that they can advise their customers, who may otherwise miss out.
Cheers, Pickles.

I expect the German vehicle going out of production sold considerably more than 20,000 units a year worldwide... I can't see that stopping having much of a negative economic impact, when you consider how many units of other vehicles LR sell internationally...we have to face the reality, sadly. 1998 110 300Tdi White Hard Top

I have a feeling the vehicle in question was/is the G wagen. I do recall reading a few years back that production was ending. You do have to ask how G wagen production is continuing when the Defender is ending, as there is little to choose between them that I am aware of. Again I think it just comes down to the will to build it. When the Defender is ended look out for G wagen LWB hard tops and 130 type double cabs... Whistle 2011 110 USW

Not if it's the G-Wagen they're talking about!

wikipedia G-Class page wrote:
A new version was expected for 2007, but the new GL-Class did not replace the G-Wagen, and it will continue to be hand-built in Graz, Austria at an annual production of 4,000 to 6,000 units. In February 2009, Magna Steyr, an operating unit of Magna International, announced that it signed an agreement with Daimler AG to extend the production of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class at Magna Steyr in Graz, Austria until 2015. Besides the production, the further development of the G-Class by Daimler's subsidiary Mercedes-Benz Consult Graz since 1992.

I hadn't realised that even fewer G's were produced than Defenders!

For a more definitive answer - Just ask someone in Land Rover's supply chain for the Defender when they are stopping supplies to Solihull? Do you think their suppliers haven't thought about their own production capacity after next year?

Do the members of the Flat Earth Society actually believe that Tata will simply end Defender production on a given date in say 2015 and scrap all the tooling etc?

So, obviously no UK Dealers have any "final order dates"?

JLR have obligations to continue to supply parts for (I think) ten years after production ends, so I doubt the third party suppliers are too worried.

As to scrapping the tooling, I imagine that is what usually happens when a model goes out of production, or are Mk1 minis still being put together somewhere in the world alongside Austin sevens and the Morris Minor, with the Zephyr as an alternative? 2011 110 USW
