United Kingdom 2011 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Santorini Black
Exactly....and come 2015 when a-n-other goes to buy a Defender they will be hit with "sorry, but all slots have been sold. However, I do know someone who would be interested in selling their slot....and hence the premiums start!!!" It's happened with everything when demand is greater than supply Crying or Very sad

To be fair to Dean he did show me a spread sheet with the build slots and Ludlow is a small dealership.
As Defender nears EOL there will be no problem for any stealers selling the last vehicles. Many may choose to retain some stock and drive prices up, just look at the number of Tweaked models out there and some of the prices Big Cry £50k + for a 2.2 with some added wood, plastic and leather, great business if you can get it. Thumbs Up

I'm sure that production will end December 2015.
However, the fianl date for getting the vehicle YOU WANT will be the question, & at what stage will total production to December 2015 be accounted for.
Obviously, if they are going to finish Dec 2015, there will be only so many that they can produce by then, and it will be interesting to see at what stage a "build to your spec" will no longer be available/possible, but I imagine it will be substantially before 20/12/15.
IMHO, JLR are going to have NO problem in selling every Defender they make, from now on.
Cheers, Pickles.

They are... either customer specific or the dealer orders one for the showroom that they hope/will sell to a 'walk in' customer.

Shukers Ludlow/Shrewsbury don't shift many Defenders... maybe something to do with the seriously low level of discount!

Shrewsbury definitely seem to rotate their stock: Showroom > Forecourt rock display > Demo

On a side note Shrewsbury have a lovely Firenze Red pickup out the front!

There is also a movement of enthusiast's wich has a dialog with JLR to building a batch of sandglow coloured vehicles with full camel trophy equipment minus the badges ( as they are branded protected)

IT would have been great if Land Rover did this Thumbs Up -99 Td5 90 CSW

Reading through this thread, I think that something that has already been mentioned is important.
And that is the "Date For Final Order"..ie, the last time at which you can order a new Defender.
Mike has confirmed that production will end Dec '15, but has also said that "date for final orders has yet to be announced, and will depend upon orders."??!!
My opinion is that many people will leave their order until too late, & will miss out.
Cheers, Pickles.

Well to throw more smoke into the room. I was at my dealers this AM to pick up some parts. Spoke to the sales manager there. Him being ex forces we get on quite well.
I commented about the number of Defenders they had on the forecourt. I think there were about 1/2 dozen all lined up. Where as 12 months ago they had 1.
But we then got chatting about run out dates and its replacement. His answer was DC100 is dead. No more, just a taster.
The new Defender is in design. Old (current) Defender will cease production in Dec 15. The new Defender is approx 12-18 months on from that before release. But they are trying to throw more assets at it to close that time gap.

Make of that what you will but he seemed genuine with his conversation and believed what he was saying 110 D250 SE HT

JLR turn out approx 500 defenders a week. No sane company is going to ignore that. The Defender may stop being 'assembled' at Solihull, but will not be stopped. It will just be moved to China or India. It may then be sent back to UK in kit form thereby getting around certain EU rules by being not classed as mass produced in the EU. Remember, JLR is a worldwide company now. It's not just the EU that buys the Defender. I don't think a dealer who sells maybe 100 Defenders a year is going to be 'THE' authority on what is going to happen when a lot of JLR don't know.

Every time it was announced the Defender was being stopped, sales went through the roof. Why stop something all together when they know they will sell. Is the DC100 really dead? Again, no company would go to so much trouble and expense as they did with this. It will still come out, just not referred to as THE Defender replacement and maybe not looking like it does altogether at the moment.

Do the same EU rules on 'specialist' vehicles apply as they do on mass produced? How are Caterham or Arial looking at this? I can't imagine a Caterham with an Airbag!

There also seems to be a lot of direction pointing toward Bowler. Maybe this could be the last run of 'Defenders? Going out with a Bowler Defender would be quite a good seeing off!

It was mentioned I think earlier on this thread about spares and a worry they wouldn't be available. We'll, if the 70% of Landrovers the press keep telling us are still in use then there is a mass market for spares that none of the current manufacturers are going to turn their noses up at.

Whatever happens, I will still love driving my LR vehicles and the Defender will still be my preferred choice. Like the Spitfire, Vulcan, Lancaster, they are a big part of what British is all about and some of us are proud of that.

Yeah, the DC100 may be dead, but I would put money on it that there's a DC100.1 As I have said on another thread, there is going to be a huge market for small SUVs. Most manufacturers will have a small 'crossover' 4x4. The DC100.1 will be JLR's. The only trouble is that JLR have to price it right. My betting is that it will be the most expensive small SUV! VW's Taigun is going to be massively popular, but it's not clear yet if VW are actually going to make it use all four wheels or not. If not, then there will be two segments within the small SUV class - those with 4x4, and those without. Now left.

This is what I thought, however two of my local dealers have said production will end Dec 2014.

Could be something to do with this:-
The Euro 6 standard will come into force on 1 September 2014 for the approval of vehicles, and from 1 January 2015 for the registration and sale of new cars.

They will probably stop selling them in Europe on october 2014 considering that standard you mentioned. Here in the bush we will probably get them untill dec 2015. Anyway, you place an order here and you have to wait 4-6 months for you vehicle to arrive. According to dealer they have to be specifically built for the area, considering the moisture, bad fuel humidity etc. I believe thats Censored but oh well I have mine and I dont look forward to that delicate 2.2 in this area. Raleigh international bought 2 and have been at the dealers for some time now with serious motor issues. And we dont get dpf

Cheers

There are small SUVs that have switchable 2 & 4WD. Either old fashioned manual or electronic by the push of a button, or depending on terrain setting etc.

LR makes 2WD Freelanders & Evoques (even once a 2WD Series 1). Other manufacturers make 4WD/AWD versions of their standard 2WD vehicles. I would not be surprised if the new small LR will follow suite. But will it have locking differentials, or just a simpler version of the terrain response? Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. Ta ta Defender

Still no "Final Order" dates, that I know about,....but they will come.
What with "Special Editions", "Final Editions", and with the mad rush that will certainly come when people realize that "it's all over", after 68 yrs, it will be interesting to hear of the first person to hear the dreaded statement, "Sorry, we cannot accommodate your order" etc?
Pickles.
