I think the 500mm depth is a sort of 'max definitely safe' limit...
Above that if you're stationary you could run into problems with electric fan, electric throttle etc but if you push a now wave if say you're safe up to the wing air intake at least, I wouldn't take mine any deeper Certainly you see pumas with footwells full of water keep going, but I wouldn't want to put the throttle underwater for sure! As a general rule for myself , I try and keep the sills out of the water but I've seen much deeper. Also you'll throw water around the engine bay at depths where the sump is underwater Cheers, David Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8. |

See here for some fairly deep wading by a 110 and some other vehicles- puma opens doors to let water out but had no problems...

I could not readily find the video of the Royal Marine standing up to drive a Defender through deep sea water from a landing craft.

looking at that, although he may have a RAI, it can't be good having a dash full of water with a puma! his heater intake etc were all underwater and seeing the water pouring out from behind the dash makes my skin crawl! Cheers, David Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8. |

If you go to 38/15.5/15 wheels then it may be an issue, but you could increase wading depth by a couple of inches by going to something like a 265/65R18. Using larger rims means you get a bigger diameter without displacing too much extra air.
A lift will have the opposite effect, reducing buoyancy at any given depth since less of the body will be submerged. It won't turn the vehicle in to a submarine, but it could give you the ability to go 6 inches deeper before your feet get wet. think about extending the breathers for mech components and tank too, plus ECU locations,
