Well, first impressions - the tent arrived very quickly after ordering. It really was a matter of minutes to attach it to the roof rack and then deploy, packing away was also very quick, unpeg, zip up doors and roll into the integral bag, then flip over onto roof rack for travel.
The tent has a decent floor area, we used a double airbed with no problem, though it is very much a sleeping tent, you wouldn't want to spend a wet weekend in it. Great for overnight stops, which is what we bought it for. There was quite a lot of condensation on the outer in the morning, but it was closed up tight, this would probably have been alleviated by leaving the two door zips open 6 inches or so. Came with good quality plastic pegs (and several of the tough grip pegs, these were a "gift" so don't know if everyone gets these ), one strange thing, the guy ropes are black, bit of a night trip hazzard we found. So all in all, very happy a good buy. I am trying, without much success to upload some photos to my gallery so check it for piccys. Chris 2010 Defender 110 Station Wagon, Santorini Black. |

Hi Steve,
We used the LandieTent on a trip to Spain last summer, no problems at all apart from one of the inner tent hangers coming unstitched, took all of 2 minutes to fix. We did find there was condensation inside the LT in the mornings but we found if the two doors were left open for 10-15 minutes it soon dried out, if you are prepared to unzip the top couple of inches of the doors at night then this probably wouldn't happen. Unfortunately the two teenagers who were sharing the LT wanted their "privacy " so it remained zipped up! It is extremely quick to put up and down, just clip to the roof rack, unzip, let it drop down and peg out. Putting it away is just the reverse. You can leave it clipped on to the roof rack and just flip it over but it suited our packing to unclip it. SWBO decided that she wanted to get an OZ Tent rather than use the Caranex as it is quicker to deploy. The OZ Tent was used on the other side of the Defender and was superb, again very quick to deploy, not exactly 2 minutes as the advertising claims as you have to peg it out but very quick all the same, it is superb quality, heavy duty and looks like it will last! we also like the awning/shade provided between the vehicle and tent. Click image to enlarge I suppose we could have used the Caranex as well but we decided to leave it at home though I would still recommend it as well as the others, I actually purchased it about 18 years ago when we spent a very exciting Winter Holiday in it in the snow in Glencoe with my old SIII 109 Station wagon, the first of many. And it's still good as new! Hope this is of some help. Chris 2010 Defender 110 Station Wagon, Santorini Black. |

Thanks for the reply Chris,
How long does it take to put up the caranex and if you use the extras kit for self support how long then. Thanks again, Steve |

Hi Steve, William,
Yes, I'd go along with that, only problem I had was lining up the vehicle again if I drove away leaving it up, bit of shuffling back and forth was required and with my old SIII a good dose of oily exhaust smoke to add to that special Land Rover experience The good thing about the OZ Tent is that if you need to move it then just pull the pegs and you can move the whole tent in one piece to adjust the distance to the vehicle. Hello all,
and thanks for the replies and your time. I am pretty much convinced the way forward is caranex, as the oz tent is way to heavy for my 2.5 N/A and minimalist camping. Is the caranex any good in the wind or rain and finally...is the fabric tough enough for 3 week excursions to hotter and very much colder climates(spain and norway). I am just trying to get my 2.5 n/a fitted for radio ex mod 110 in some sort of order for very slow but sure trips (mainly road) and need to differentiate between what i need for camping, and what i need overlanding and sometimes both.... Cheers for replies, steve. |

I find Caranex a big fat pain in the ass, oz tents the way forward!

The oz tent weighs in excess of 20kg(or more) where as the caranex is just over 7 kg which suits my lightweight overlanding philosophy. There are are other issues with the oz tent which rule it out, for me.
Thanks for the replies so far. Any one used one in blowy or rainy conditions ? |

Hi All,
I've used the Caranex in severe weather with no problems. Not had that "opportunity?" in the Oz Tent, weather was pretty good in Spain but very cold at night. We had some condensation in all of them as with the Landie Tent but it wan't a big problem, some airing soon dried them out. What you must be careful with with the Caranex is to make sure you don't let any sagging or gullies form between the tent and the vehicle that collects water otherwise you may get an unintended shower I can see this could be a problem with the OZ Tent and the awning as well if you don't get the levels right, though I haven't experienced it myself Chris 2010 Defender 110 Station Wagon, Santorini Black. |

Condensation can occur in most if not all tents especially single skin tents such as the Oztent.
Condensation can be take to a minimum if the tent is used correctly! I have seen two guys get into an Oztent RV1, zip up all the ventilation flaps and hardly surprising condensation was definitely present in the tent in the morning. If I remember correctly people expire between the equivalent of 0.5 and 1.0 litre of water vapour whilst asleep. So give each tent a chance to work correctly by using the ventilation flaps and fly sheets and condensation will be a minimal problem. Brendan |
