Harald,
I too was a big fan of the series and lived for a while in North Yorkshire, that was 30 years ago, so my knowledge of local lanes is limited. If you don't get any other responses, I might try and do some research and see what I can find. It would be a trip down memory lane for me.. cheers simon |

Hello Simon,
Thnx, I will keep that in mind. As my wife and I are watching the complete series & specials again (now on DVD) I still remember how fond I was on this serie. And the series are timeless, we still enjoy it! I would really love to see a Christmas Reunion Special of "All creatures Great and Small". I was 12 when I saw the first one in 1978. CU, Harald |

If you do come over I'm not familiar with many of the greenlanes locally but the James Herriot museum is just in Thirsk, the next town to me and well worth a visit. It includes a few of the sets from the tv series and is also the actual surgery where all the stories are based on and Alf White wrote the books.
Plus if you travel for 15 minutes I would happily entertain you with a coffee at the Land Rover dealership in Ripon where I work. |

There are some lovely green lanes on the north yorks moors plus plenty in Herriot country
A couple of years back the club we belong to did a coast to Coast trip. We later went with the fifth gear team filming Johnny doing it in a lada niva. One of the lanes has a ford at the bottom which was used in the titles of all creatures great and small according to the lady who lives in the farmhouse by it. We usually camp a a small site outside Helmsley and I would recommend it. Let me know when you are coming and Bren and I will happily join up with you and show you round. Regards Barbara |

Fantastic pictures of a fantastic vehicle.
One of my friends sisters featured in all creatures great and small and it has been a firm favourite in our house for years. Would love to meet up if/when you come across to Yorkshire. As I say there's always a cup of tea or coffee going at our showroom and I promise not to try and sell you anything Hope the trip all comes together for you. Rob |

Hello Rob, The funny thing is that when the series were on TV, (as young as I was) I didn't like the Willy Jeep the Scottish vet Calum was driving, but I loved the green series I which could be seen in some episodes.
At our place we allways keep "open house", especially for nature-, horse- and Land Rover lovers, so if you ever visit Belgium just let us know. And as I don't have anything to sell I promise not to try and sell you anything either Cu, Harald |

I remember the jeep well. It featured heavily in the episode he had feelings for the new vet student but also had a girlfriend.
I may well take you up on that when I eventually get round to doing the battlefield tour I have had planned for a few years. Cheers Rob |

As WWI started a 100 years ago there is a lot about it on television.
On TV program had a beautiful route at "Flanders Fields", the first part of it they drove around in a Minerva. http://www.een.be/programmas/vlaanderen-va...den-deel-1 And they made a movie about it: http://www.invlaamsevelden.be/ It is not exactly next door, but Belgium is not that big, so just let me know. @ Supacat: |

Harald,
I have a fair few routes of the North Yorkshire Moors & also Yorkshire dales. Be happy to meet up if I'm available and show you some lanes. Lovely area you've chosen "YORKSHIRE". Maybe a little get together with Brendan. Martin |

Hello Martin, Thnx for your response. And a wonderfull idea if we could do some greenlaning with some more Land Rovers. I suppose you don't hace any digital tracks so I allready can enjoy myself doing some research with Google Earth?
If you ever visit Belgium, I have a nice digital track from the "Vlaamse Kempen" (were I live) and a small but wonderfull roadbook with two great water crossings in the "Ardens", near Dinant. CU, Harald |

Google maps is not really suitable for research as a good proportion of the unsurfaced tracks you might see on there won't have legal rights of way access.
Much better just to wait and meet up with a local with good current knowledge of where you can legally go. Someone may be able to send you something digital, I know a lot of people (including us and Brendan) use the Ordnance Survey Maps on Memory Map and save known green lanes as gpx data. We (me and other half Dave) have done a fair bit of laning in Belgium - having attended a few years of Belgium National - the roadbooks they gave us for the event were brilliant and there were sooooo many tracks criss crossing the farmland - we have nowhere near that amount here in the UK! Have a great time on your trip visiting my home county ! Our blog - http://landytravels.com/ Yorkshire Off Road Club - http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net |
