Fitted a Dixon Bate adjustable slider, so I can have ball or hitch now. Had issues with the supplied bolts so spent two hours driving around town to source the correct ones.
Then got stuck in a field, on a positive note now have original land rover bracket and plate set up to sell. It will keep her semi happy if I get the odd donation back. Rolling with laughter _______________________________

Not the Defender as such, but a bit of it for the next one, dug out the old mountney wooden steering wheel from the garage and took it to pieces to give it a refurb. Third coat of varnish on today and looks perfect, ill give it a few more days to harden then re polish the aluminium. Should look good on my next defender Wink
In the meantime though im still in the yucky Mercedes A class courtesy car while its warranty work is being finished Big Cry Defender puma dormobile camper

After my experiment with making a straight through exhaust from bits I decided to order a stainless exhaust equivalent as a more permanent and less bodged solution.

I had a late (98 onwards) 300tdi mild steel exhaust (just one silencer in the middle and then a tail pipe more like a TD5 but with no resonator). I thought the ehaust without silencer would be really noisy and awful, but its not. It is hardly any different and yet it flows more easily (something I have been thinking about ever since I fitted the VNT turbo). This easier flow also seems to keep the EGT down.

I ended up getting a Terrafirma down pipe, a Britpart mid pipe and a Rimmer Brothers tail pipe. They are all in 409 Stainless Steel. I am really impressed with the Terrafirma and Britpart pipes. Good quality, lovely smooth bends and a perfect fit. I am a bit less impressed with the Rimmer Brothers tail pipe as it is in 2 1/4" rather than 2.5" (as the other two pipes are). I had to do a bit of heating and expanding the flare on the taile pipe to get a decent fit on to the mid pipe.

Really I wanted a 2.5" all the way through but hey ho and I cant find anyone else who does just the tail pipe in stainless.

Off this afternoon to go and pick up 5 wolf wheels and tyres, they look in good condition.
Once there back they will magically turn from white to cream in a couple of weeks and be put away with the wooden steering wheel and other parts in the shed. All waiting for when my defender sells as have plans for the next one Thumbs Up Defender puma dormobile camper

I can well believe it! A friend of mine was locked out of his Disco2 not long ago (his dog leapt from the back to the front and managed to press the lock button on the dash while the keys were in the ignition) and to get back in he broke the small panel in the rear door, on the theory that it was the smallest panel of glas and therefore the cheapest.

When I was shopping around to get a replacement for him, it turns out that the small panel is nearly twice the price of the big sliding window in the door! Shocked

Recovered the Disco with the Defender, alternator failed.
Spend £260 on new Alternator and Viscous Fan tools, drove two hours to pick em up
Spent 2.5 hours in the lashing rain removing old/fitting new.
Sat smug by the fire now knowing I saved ££££ not going to stealer for parts/labour.

Cracking 'How to' photo guide and parts supplier over at disco3.co.uk and plenty of good advice there from those good folks Thumbs Up
