6 year anti corrosion warranty
I have a defender110 xs which was first registered in March 2008.
I bought it this summer from a landrover main dealer (torver Coniston) and it had been serviced by them from new by original owner in accordance with service schedule.
I bought it with a years select warranty.
I have a small patch of rust on one of the rear panels.
2 questions....
If it is accepted that this is rust, am I covered under anti corrosion warranty even though I am not original owner ?
Do I have to get it inspected where I bought it, or can I have the work done (assuming warranty covered) by a more local dealer (I live 80 miles away from Coniston and there are several closer)
Thanks

Purely depends on the attitude of your local dealer. Take it there and sound them out.... Thumbs Up Whistle

If it's the rear panels depicted in the thread below you may have to get on the blower if the dealer refuses and take it to LR Customer Care and broker yourself a deal perhaps like I did?

In principle the way you describe it, it should not be covered, so you indeed are down to the goodwill of the dealer.
Extract of Land Rover warranty reads as follows:
QQ
Anti-corrosion warranty
Should any part of the bodywork of the vehicle be perforated by rust corrosion, the panels affected by the perforation will be repaired or replaced by any Land Rover dealer/Authorised Repairer, completely free of charge, regardless of any change in vehicle ownership.
The anti-corrosion warranty begins at the same time as the vehicle warranty and continues for a period of six years.
The term 'perforation' means a hole that penetrates through the bodywork caused by corrosion from the inside or underside as a result of faulty manufacture or materials
.
QQ

Good luck, hope your dealer is flexible Thumbs Up You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

As stated it purely depends on the 'attitude' of your dealer. At five and a half years old I have just had paintwork done 'under warranty' with no evidence of 'perforations.' The same dealer refuted my previous claim that I then took to Land Rover Customer Care, this time it was refuted again. I took the vehicle to their own bodyshop and asked the manager for his opinion on whether it was down to corrosion? He agreed it was! The dealer's decision was overturned, the bodyshop ran with the issue themselves this time.

The ONLY way of finding out is to take it to your dealer and talking to them in person whilst inspecting the vehicle. Experiences on here are vast and varied and any single individual's experience cannot be used as a benchmark. If you don't get the response you wish take it to the next level, it costs nowt but a little time and a phonecall or two.

My 90 was built in June 2008. In October 2012 when it started to corrode along the edge of both rear cappings and fillet pieces I took it to the dealer. They told me it was not covered by the anti-corrosion warranty because there were no holes present. Their estimate for the work was £500 but I had a local accident repair center treat the corrosion and respray both rear panels for £200.

Hello Jeeves,

You do not have to take your vehicle to the selling dealership the warranty is valid in any of our franchised dealer network.

If you would like please PM when and where you book your vehicle in along with your vehicle details and I will be more then happy to follow up accordingly.

Unfortunately at this time without us seeing the vehicle I am unable to say if it will be covered or not.

Many Thanks

Mike

I feel for you having shelled out of your own pocket. Point of principle for me was with the cappings is that it wasn't a paint issue (that's what they tried to fob me off with) as if you shine a bright torch under the cappings there's no paint at all! Irrespective of circumstances if a vehicle is well maintained it shouldn't start rotting out at the four or five year point. As long as the paint isn't broken it's corrosion in my book and with no paint applied at manufacture they can expect nothing else but a flurry of unhappy owners!

And LR wonder why people think they run the place on a shoestring and expect every owner to be a mechanic and bodywork specialist, or just to have deep pockets. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

This in theory means the warranty is worth S*** as it's absolutely impossible to happen on any car nowadays, not even on a Defender. Mr. Green

Mike is a real asset to JLR.
I'm in Aus, 12000 miles away, and he's even helped me!
Cheers, Pickles.
