Thanks for the info.
However there is some confusion in the dealer network. Listers (Hereford) Shukers (Ludlow) Likes (Glasbury) Have all told me order book closes Oct 2014 |

I wonder how many of the unscrupulous dealers out there see this as an opportunity to make some serious money by scaring us into placing early orders or using it as an excuse to charge big premiums after 2014?

“scaring us into placing early orders or using it as an excuse to charge big premiums after 2014?”
So, don’t allow yourself to be scared… Early orders? My five hundred quid deposit is with a dealer for end 2015 delivery, I won’t commit to anything definite (colour, specs etc.) before the latter part of that year. Excuse to charge big premiums? I don’t think so! I suspect there’ll be more demand for newly-introduced DC100s or whatever they’ll be called, rather than the last of an obsolete design, and although I doubt there’ll be much in the way of discounting to be had, I wouldn’t pay one penny more than the mrp and nor should anybody else. It is normal to close the order book before production ends . Ford Transit orders closed in July but production ended Dec.
Renault Traffic order books will close Mar/Apr but production ends in Sept /Oct. I would expect something similar for Defender. |

A few "differing" opinions here. I still say that the last Defender will roll down the line on 20th December 2015 according to JLR's official release.
Order books closing before that date, ...Thinking about it, they would have to wouldn't they. Paying a premium? ...On a normal vehicle ya shouldn't have to, particularly if it's built for you.? Premium on maybe some other "Final Edition"? I reckon there will be some sort of final edition, I don't see any mechanical upgrade, but if there was some sort of "Final Edition", I could see a massive demand for such a vehicle in which case some Dealers may feel that they are able to charge a premium, particularly if it was made in limited numbers? Cheers, Pickles. |

I ma more concerned about the manufacture & availability of spare parts for Defenders. Is there not a law that says they must be made for 20 years after.... Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. Ta ta Defender

You can still get bits for series one so I wouldn't worry about that.

Keith, yes, how? If that would be correct, then there should already now be all the details of a "last edition" spec and you should be able to place the orders for it. Unless LR would just let the Defender die without any poohaa at all, which would be a pity. I remember the SVX version details were known here at the very beginning of 2008, went up for sale Feb/March 2008, and production followed only 6 months later, with deliveries in Sep and Oct. So if production stops Dec 14, they better hurry up.... FWIW, my dealers have no official information at all about actual production stop, you can still place orders as you please. Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |
