Reversing light fail
Thought I would share this in case others have the same problem. My Reversing light failed, main dealer had it for two days, finally found the wire had rubbed through near the switch where it apparently runs along the top of the gearbox and in turn this caused damage to the switch. Originally they said it wasn't covered under warranty but a check of the policy exclusions and a quick call to the warranty technical department confirmed it was covered and the dealer couldn't charge me Big Cry . Got to watch em!

Something for us to watch out for.

I'd argue that is a design fault, so definitely a warranty issue!
Are you on an extended warranty, or is this on another defender other than the 2008 one in your profile?

I have extended the warranty twice now as last year the repairs I had to have would have amounted to about 5 grand so I didn't want to be without it so even though it's about 600 quid. I figure 600 quid is cheap while it's still developing faults and can be warranted. Next year it's too old for the full warranty so I"ll probably put the money aside and go back to fixing her myself. I agree with you that it's not fit for purpose and I would expect this type of chaffing to have been considered in the design.
