Bonnet protection
Our bonnet is what's known technically as f*****. Scratches from children's welly buckles, stuff slung on top, stone chips etc.

I plan to put black chequer plate on to match the wings. Now which should I go for and should it be 1 piece or 2 piece? I think I prefer 1 piece, but are there any bad experiences of crap 1 piece CP?

I have OEM on the wings.

Pretty sure there is only one manufacturer of one piece Puma bonnet chequer plate and that is Mammoth.

Available from forum sponsor MPS Trading (SGH)

We've got it fitted to the FCX 130 and it seems good quality

No Problems with Mammouth, excellent kit. I fitted my wing cp with foam gaskets.

Mammouth is good quality. You get gasket supplied and I used Sikaflex to seal up afterwards. If you're bonnet's not fooked now after drilling 28 holes to fit it it will be....

The photos are long gone but here was my fitting guide.....

I seriously and significantly underestimated how long this item was going to take me to fit. Then again I am a perfectionist and took my time! Still not finished so final photographs will have to wait!

What you will need (dependant on your own method as sealing you may deem as not necessary). I did not remove the bonnet to fit the chequerplate but that may be another method worth considering!

6MM Allen key. Better to have a ratchet one!
Suitable pilot drill. I used 3MM
6MM drill.
10MM socket and open ended 10MM spanner.
Needlenose pliers. (To fit front four nuts as access is limited).
Masking tape.
Black Sikaflex sealant, (Or equivalent sealer).

Mask up bonnet to prevent scratching and fit centrally three bonnet bulge gaskets.

Rest chequerplate on bonnet, centralise ensuring chequerplate is approximately 3mm from the windscreen edge of the bonnet. Pilot drill and then open up corner hole to 6mm. Loosely fit the first corner bolt.

Go to opposite side, ensure chequerplate is aligned and drill same hole on this side. If satisfied fit bolt and tighten these first two bolts up. By climbing on the bonnet and applying pressure you can then pilot drill the remaining 26 holes with the pilot drill. Prior to removing the chequerplate I used an indellible pen and drew a line in the outside edge of the bonnet bulge to give me a guide where the remaining two gaskets should be fitted.

Remove the chequerplate drill out all the holes to 6mm deburr, remove masking tape and ensure all swarf is removed. Fit and adhere the last two gaskets.

There are 6 long M6 bolts which are fitted around the lower edge of the bonnet bulge and 22 short M6 bolts for the remaining holes.

TOP TIP.....dependant on how the chequerplate lies some of the short bolts do not quite fit through the chequerplate and the bonnet. By using one of the long bolts it is possible to draw the chequerplate to the bonnet. Extract the long bolt and the short one now fits! I used Sikaflex to wet assemble all the bolts to prevent ingress of moisture and air to prevent corrosion.

Start at the windscreen edge and work your way forward until you are left with the last four bonnet leading edge bolts.

The front four M6 short bolts are tricky to access. The needlenose pliers are used to hold the nut at an angle to catch the bolt. Thereafter an open ended spanner will do!

Finally you may find that the chequerplate may sit ever so slighlty proud in a couple of areas. I just applied a bead of Sikaflex to seal up and a rag with white spirits to clean the bead. It is currently fitted but needs a little more sealing. I started just after 1pm and ran out of light. Give yourself a good 6-8 hours to fit. (I was on my own and the bonnet is extremely heavy with the chequerplate fitted. Hence my decision to keep it on the vehicle whilst fitting).

Just got a Mamouth 4x4 trading Pumatech bonnet cover. They don't come with foam (I'm sure the last one did.. Go Beyond????)

Anyways I drilled more holes (and countersunk them) to get a better fit. Nothing that wrong with the standard fitment I just wanted it better Thumbs Up

Oh and I swapped the bolts for stainless ones Thumbs Up
