First get it protected: steering and diff guards, maybe HD steering and tracking rods or wait untilyou bent one (like I did).
2 shackles 1 kinetic rope A good jack, hi lift when mud is expected A small waffle board as jack base Should actually add another shackle and load divider soload is divided over the 2 front recovery eyes. And at least one full size waffke board. But what I have now is the very basic. But most importantly: make sure you have proper recovery eyes back and front and tonot go alone so you can recover each other. Later you can maybe consider a winch but it's not a beginners tool. Still don't have one yet and it's still not a priority for me. Will furter protect the underside and get a spare wheel carrier before a winch. |

For off road, I would carry the tools and parts to change
wheel bearings, (hub nut socket, socket set, grease gun, silicone sealant) Prop uj's (imperial spanners, sockets, hammer, grease gun) Alt drive belt (fan removal spanners if required) Bulbs (screw drivers) Spare wheel (jack, wheel brace, wheel chock) I also carry wire and a few connectors, fuses, 14mm ratchet spanner for removing challis, threaded bar and nuts. And loads of other stuff

Maybe worth carrying spare shafts and cv's dependant on what type of off roading you intend to do, laning or play days or challenging/comps.
Personally for laning I carry a 150pc socket set, pliers, cutters, small handsaw, knife, small compressor, screwdrivers and a jack. Recovery wise, 2 strops and a few shackles. Cheers. |

To be honest f you keep up with maintenance on your motor, you lessen the risk of anything going wrong when ou and about. I have all manner of tools and spares in my motor, that is mainly as I do a fair amount of spannering and most of the stuff stays on board as I know where it is. I do a fair amount of greenlaning and I can say hand on heart that I have allways driven home, as is the case of pay and play sites I've been to.
The one thing I would say is carry a few commonly used spanners, 10mm, 13mm, 14mm, 17mm and 19mm. A quality adjustable, mole grips and a hammer. Some sockets to match the spanners, few spare fuses and a small selection of bulbs. The only things that have happened when out and about with others have been the odd puncture, a UJ failure and a drive flange stripped out. The latter two were sorted by taking the prop off and in the case of both of them driven home on diff lock. The main thing is preventative maintenance. |
