The PAS pump should have some oil/dirt behind the pulley. Uses the same oil from the engine, so thin.
If not, could be the front main cranckase seal. Puma 110" SW ............................................................. Earth first. Other planets later |

In fact in those pics i had just wiped the area. Quickly enough there's a drip of oil on the end.
Ringing LR Assist from work tomorrow. Yet another f****** problem with the truck. We're seriously thinking about chopping it in for something non-LR. |

I don't think it's the PAS pump - that's way off on the near side of the engine bay - near the top. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS

Oh dear it's the steering box isn't it, the one with the arm coming off it, they often leak on older models but will eventually need a seal kit or replacing Original Member Pie n Pea Club.

To me it looks like the steering housing and not the pump.
The bottum seal leaks more often but I didn't expect it with a Puma yet. Roel 1984 90 2.5 na Diesel - RR V8 (1994-2001) 1997 Camel Trophy Discovery 300TDI (2001-2009) 2005 G4 Discovery III 4.4 V8 (2008-2018) It's gone but it still hurts. 2003 90 Td5 (2009-now) |

Yup it's the steering box that's gone. Back into the dealers for the second time in a month with a part that isn't fit for purpose breaking.
Who was it that said to own a Puma out of warranty requires either stupidity, blind faith or enormous wealth? All three I'd say. |

The good thing of a defender is that a lot off things you can do yourselves.
A steering box isn't cheap but you could easily save the manhours charge and probably you could get a steering box cheaper elswhere than what the dealer is charging you. I am not an automotive engineer but I do 90% off al work on my LR's myselves.
