Cheapest option would be pick up an old disco 1 v8 auto. Friend of mine did a 300tdi auto conversion. He had to move engine mounts etc.
You can buy the 50th mouldings to mount the auto lever inside. So line up an engine Hoist Welder New mounts Few handy mates One weekend jobs a good one. Reckon you could do it for 2k and a old disco to dispose of. |

I wouldn't have the time or skills to do it, I meant in terms of a reputable place doing the swap for me. 2016 D4 HSE

Perhaps sell yours and buy one "off the shelf",which is nearly always the cheapest way to modify a vehicle, remember the value of the vehicle you modify will drop.

I would go for the V8TD from the RR
Mega torque - in fact that would probably break all the other components! |

Hi RRUK,
Do you definitely want a V8? I am guessing yes, but if its mainly for the grunt and having an automatic how about getting Ashcrofts to convert yours to automatic with the strongest box and the larger torque converter then get some engine work done such as VGT turbo etc. Pretty sure it will go just as well as a V8 but sadly without the sound. My guess is this would be about £7k ? V8 conversion and auto much more.. If you passing you can drive mine but I don't have an auto yet but have a VGT etc from IRB. Steve ![]() |

Agree with Superspoons
![]() Converting isnt as cheap as we'd like to think, hence JE etc prices. I've just built mine and would love to do one for someone else, but at what price?? and the time would put you off too. What you want is above me thinks. |

The Ashcroft auto conversion with a tweak from BAS makes for a very relaxing drive and I have never been short on grunt. Cruised up high mountains loaded with ease, overtakes with ease and can embarrass so call hot hatches in the mid range - not that I have tried
![]() I use mine as a daily commute on B, A and motoways. BM52 |

IMHO, a V8 conversion would be the ultimate, a GM 6.2L LS3 would be the go, around 450 lazy hp, and good torque, plenty to drive a nice auto. But for me, it'd have to be done professionally, ain't got no idea of UK pricing, but I think ya'd need deep pockets.
Cheers, Pickles. |

Got the LS1 5.7 in one of ours... 410hp....auto... sounds fab...goes like stink... getting the power actually onto the road can be an issue with the wheel spin
![]() ![]() We got the engine and gearbox direct from the States and self-built, with help from Pat at Maddison 4x4. Build details here - http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=194 Our blog - http://landytravels.com/ Yorkshire Off Road Club - http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net |
