Removal of bulk head under front seats
Has anybody remove the bulk head under the front seats of a 110 before. I am planning to move my batteries to the back and fuse box also to the back seats, and remove the front bulk head. close the floor up level with the rest of the car. Make frames for the seat and install again, like a normal car. this will give loads of extra leg room and now you can make storage space under the front seats.

As anybody done this before. I hate that bulkhead as it restricts leg room in the back a lot.
is there any reason why I cannot do it, or why nobody has thought about this before.

Just an idea I have and are busy looking into it. it does not seems to be such a big issue, all I need to is to make a extension for the wiring loom and the batteries should be easy deal, I hope.

Cheers

The only series/defender i have seen without a seat box was the Tempo version of the series one that was built under licence in west germany.

It had a flat floor to allow troops to access the rear seats through the front doors as i believe it did not have a drop down tailgate.

Would be most interested to see how you get on with it. 2005 Td5 90 XS

A couple of pics

With carpets

Shortened and highly modified seat box.. (You still need the raised central bit to cover the handbrake and back of transfer box so a fully flat floor is not an option)

Some of the additional floor framework I had to build in to support the new flat floor (Ignore the bits in the foreground, they are for the 2nd fuel tank and the battery box in the rear wheel arch voids.

Flat floor in place

Mountain Man

Thanks for the details, that looks good, with the handbrake I am looking at a hydraulic system, not a LR design one but myne, and then with the transfercase issue, I geuss I will look at it when I get there. But what you done, looks very very good, and that is excatly what I am looking at.

Once I am done I will post some pictures, but I will propable not start before April. and the moment it is still in the idea phase of my nind.

Cheers

Just another option to think about in case it's helpful or anything?

If your just looking for storage space, maybe you could move the battery, weld up the top of the seat box (the 'lid') and then fit a larger folding 'door' on the front end. You wouldn't have to remove seat to access storage then as you do normally and you'd get bigger opening etc.

Otherwise you have a good thing to work on from Mountain man but just something that popped into my head! Would require much less modification. Cheers, David
