Carpets
Just getting a new 110 should I tick the carpet option.

Not bothered myself as they just get dirty but thinking re-sale.

United Kingdom 2011 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Sumatra Black
New-new?

Tick all the boxes!

We first specified a base model but with air-con and central locking. They were the only two things we wanted, none of the other gumph that comes with the packages. Air-con for when we're in hot places, central locking for when we're in dangerous places. That's it.

But the dealer pointed out that the difference between what I'd specified and the fully loaded XS model wasn't much at all, in fact the sort of figure you'd be negotiating as a discount come ordering day, and the resale value of an XS would be a great deal more than a base model with some added bits. I looked into what he said and he was totally right, we went for an XS model and negotiated the difference in payment away when we ordered. Very Happy

ive removed the carpets from the front and fitted the standard land rover rubber flooring, purely as i made a right mess of the carpets on my first off roading venture, i miss the carpet as the way they fit the draught from the handbrake is shrouded much better, but i like the ease of cleaning for the rubber. i still haven't sold the carpets as i am sure i may decide to swap them around again , also the trucks warmer with carpet

Having gone from a 90 HT (no carpets) to XS 110 Utility (w/ carpets) I noticed a significant noise reduction

Just get some decent mats and put them over and you'll be fine and quiet? Cheers, David

Carpets in a Defender?

Might be fine if it's used around town for the school run and crossing the urban desert en-route to Tesco. Otherwise carpets collect mud and dirt, retain dampness, breed bacteria and go smelly if used in the Great British Outdoors.

I agree but was thinking about resale as it's the first xs without carpets.

But might have to keep this one, so it won't matter then.

Personally I've looked at a few recent model Defenders with carpets in such a state they detract from the overall price and desirability of the Defender. It's very difficult even for some valets to get them looking good after a few years service. If it's just mats and matting - it can be easily scrubbed up/replaced and looks 'honest' at sale time.

Carpets can be fairly easily replaced but is a seller going to 're-trim' just prior to selling? Then a potential customer pitches up and immediately wonders why new carpeting has been fitted and what is it covering?

Just have a look at the old Top Gear programme about what the forensic scientists found in the carpets of the three featured second-hand cars! None were Defenders that appeared to have the addition of countryside dirt and bacteria in the synthetic pile.

My new Defender is coming without carpets because it will get used in the countryside.

Because the bulkhead leaked in my last one the carpets were going rotten and the 90 was only a 2012.

I am a tree surgeon so the dust is a nightmare to Hoover up.

Hello good evening all

I plan to fit that grey carpet material to the front and rear of my 90 h,t also re trim the doors to and add a small red stripe I hope it will go well with the stornoway grey paint on the out side having been sent the links to FCX land rover its given me more ideas and more problems.
Sometimes a little knowledge is not a good thing. Luckly I don't have time to do any of it right now...... Very Happy
