JLR are keeping VERY tight secrecy over ANY "new" Defender information at all aren't they?....I've heard nothing concrete at all...absolutely nothing, but they'll have to say something eventually,...I wonder how long it will be?
Even some of our most friendly, informative, & helpful Dealer friends on here seem to have no idea? Cheers, Pickles. |

Some friends of my parents were over the other day, and the bloke is an electronics engineer at JLR, I asked him if he'd seen any new ideas about the replacement, he merely said !yes many" but would not expand one iota on it. 1998 110 300Tdi White Hard Top

If thats the case that a new "defender" pick up will be released in 2017 then hopefully we ought to hear something slightly more concrete over the next 12 - 18 months. 2007 (57) Defender 90 (Sold)
Looking for another to replace it. The road less travelled.... is a muddy one! |

Hmm "McGovern admitted to What Car? that any Land Rover pick-up would be a ‘premium’ product and more in the mould of the VW Amarok than more stripped-out utilitarian rivals." Basically crap then as think the market for that sort of vehicle is flooded anyway. It's going to be hard pushed for that to compete with the ford ranger that has the fantastic 3.2 tdci with 6 speed and auto versions already available and more than likely a lot cheaper 2001 TD5 110 County Station Wagon - sold

Well,
Will be a "new Defender" variant and the article said. By the way, an VW Amarok here, full equiped, cost less than a Defender 130 (26.000 gbp vs 33.000 GBP), so no high increase in price in my point of view. Th basic Amarok can cost just 17.000 gbp Cheers! Eduardo MY 2007 110 SW PUMA 2.4: Big Fog of 64' MY 1994 Jayco 1207 Folding camper: "El Tremendo" Click image to enlarge |

I have heard that the Defender will be built abroad with 2.8 TGV engine and auto, but imported back here as a Utiliy chassis vehicle and sold through Special Vehicles for Utiltiy companies to continue to use.
They have been testing 'a vehicle at Eastnor which they are trying to hide, but has been seen to shift uphill quite quickly. |

Romadog you might well be right but when you see things like this it says to me land rover is losing its niche market
http://www.fleetnews.co.uk/news/2013/11/6/...ice/48710/ Arguably the 2.8 tgv is a massive step back from the current engine so personally can't see many utility companies jumping to buy them but we shall see. Don't get me wrong I love the Defender but when I read - 'McGovern admitted to What Car? that any Land Rover pick-up would be a ‘premium’ product and more in the mould of the VW Amarok than more stripped-out utilitarian rivals.' I think they have lost the plot and what the land rover is all about. Time will tell though! 2001 TD5 110 County Station Wagon - sold 1970 Series 2A Station Wagon 1970 Series 2A hard top 1960 Series 2 1972 Series 3 |

Agree with the sentiment. 'Premium' to me is a major turnoff of a word, and against the utilitarian ethos of a real Land Rover. The basic mechanic charm is what brought me to a Defender in the first place. It's the opposite of the Victoria Beckham footballer vehicle. How can they continue to completely misunderstand the value of what they have?

There might be a 2WD "Defender" coming IMO. Freelander & Ewok have 2WD options already.
Interesting McGovern mentioned the VW, when Ranger, L200, Nissan & Toyota all make similar, & all have life style upmarket models. Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. Ta ta Defender |
