Recommended tyre suppliers
I'm looking to get some new tyres and was hoping that someone could recommend a supplier with competitive prices. Currently running GG TRs on the rear and they're pretty low on tread and some cheap Chinese made Jinyu tyres on the front. Looking to keep to 235 85 r16 and following some research I am looking at bf goodrich at's.

Hope somebody can offer some insight 2007 (57) Defender 90 (Sold)
Looking for another to replace it.

Not sure if they do defender size ones, but Costco are very very good if you know someone with a card.

We get dad's land cruisers tyres done there and they're cheaper than anywhere else and they include fitting/balancing etc and customer service is typical Costco, perfect! Cheers, David

When I was looking for tyres for mine the widest range and cheapest prices was actually John Craddocks. For a lot of parts / kit they are often a bit expensive but they have some of the best tyre deals, due to having made so many import deals with manufacturers ... Our blog - http://landytravels.com/

You will be very popular in John O'Groats - trying to source cheap tyres from the Deep South and doubtless asking some local garage to put them on rims for you.

My own local tyre fitter detests folk who buy cheap tyres on the interwebby and then appear at his unit looking for the fitted and balanced for 20 fags and a half bottle of The Famous Grouse.

I've used Black circle and Camskills before now (not for a Landy tho),Black circle use independents to fit them for you. Pov.spec,ftw. 2006, 110,TD5.

I'm sorry, but in this day and age money is tight for everyone, not just local tyre dealers. If they bought their prices down at least closer to the big suppliers (and lets face it, carraige to Caithness may be quite expensive) then we would all support them. ฃ20 profit is better than zero surely?

Why not get the national price and give the locals the chance to price match, remebering to add postage and fitting (or get close) 2015 RRS Autobiography SDV6

...except it won't be ฃ20 profit. Yes it'll be ฃ20 they won't otherwise have had, but it won't be profit by the time their overheads are taken out (and might cost them money if there are other customers they could have sold tyres + fitting to instead of dealing with you).

Doubt many tyre shops can stay in business just on the money paid for fitting a couple of tyres but I'll admit to being just as guilty of shopping around. My current car has run flats and local place I used to use wanted ฃ60 per tyre more than it would cost to buy online and have fitted separately. Nearly ฃ250 extra all in for them to order them (not in stock) instead of me doing it.

Its a bit like the dilemma of internet shops killing off the high street, except here you actually do need someone to do the fitting. Not sure how it'll all end up, but I can't imagine tyre shops are thrilled about the internet operators.

FWIW, I've been using Tyres Pneus Online (they're on the continent but ship over within a couple of days) and never had a problem with them. Huge price difference on current car, but not seen how they measure up for Landy tyres yet.

It's the biggest problem with living in the middle of nowhere. The local garages have to pay to get the tyres shipped up here, then put all their overheads and fitting costs on top. It is a major gripe with many up here that despite being on the UK mainland, the majority of couriers charge us as if we are on the Islands. Hopefully once I've found the cheapest price I'll speak to the local garages, see whether they can match it or if they can fit them for me. I'd rather get them locally but with them being independents they struggle to provide competitive prices. It's fine for general car owners who have no real preference on tyre brand but for Defender owners we've all got our favourites depending on how we drive, how much laning we do etc. 2007 (57) Defender 90 (Sold)
