Most swingaways will clear the guards.

It's the "most" that worries me. I don't want to buy one and find it doesn't fit. I also can't find any pics of any defender with this set up. Would appreciate pictures. 2007 (57) Defender 90 (Sold)
Looking for another to replace it. The road less travelled.... is a muddy one! |

It depends on the size of the wheel/tyre combination that you are running!
Sizes up to about 33" diameter is not normally a problem. You can control how far the door opening by adjusting position of the door check/rear door strut if need be. Oversized tyre options are available. Please note that most swing away wheel carriers move the spare tyre towards the offside. This allows greater access to the rear door handle and slightly better visibility through rear view mirror. If the standard versions will not work for you we have had standard ones modified at the factory to suit customers requirements. Brendan |

I'm running standard 235/85/R16 on boost alloys. I've even tried a google search looking through hundreds of images but can't find a single pic anywhere on internet. For once Google has let me down 2007 (57) Defender 90 (Sold)

We run 255/85/16 which is 34mm bigger in overall diameter and we have no problems with it touching the lights.
I suppose there might be an issue if we allowed the rear door to 'slam open' so that the door hyper opens. Hope that makes sense. Since we have gas struts fitted we have a habit of 'controlling' the rear door opening. Brendan |

I had one from Alli sports on my 110 DCPU, I did'nt have light guards, but two ladders down either side sticking out about the same. It cleared it by 3" running 285/75's. The other bonus is it bolts to the chassis so no more body work holes needed

Just fitted the wheel carrier for safari equip and have to say it's excellent. They make them for lots of suppliers but their prices are better.
http://www.safari-equip.co.uk/shop/index.p...-2002.html Odd website with few photo's but they are the same carrier as featured in this article. http://www.extreme4x4.co.uk/acatalog/LRM_i...arrier.pdf I bought mine galvanised. |

Safari Equip factory is a long way, away from us! Going the long way around they are a total of 1.8 miles away
We have used their gear for many years on our own vehicles. We have had one off gear made by Safari Equip for our own vehicles and for customers vehicles varying from water/fuel tanks, wheel carriers, steering guards and side steps etc. 4x4Overlander can supply the full range of Safari Equip products, plus proving one off specials Brendan |

You won't see much except a spare wheel from your rear view mirror with a safari-equip one, they are adjustable but not by much.

Anyone with tinted windows can see diddly squit out of the rear anyway so adding a swing away makes not a blind bit of difference.....literally. They are certainly well made with no cumbersome lever-bracket with the single pivot one anyway.

Standard wheel carriers are non height adjustable and shift spare wheel to the offside.
The more expensive single pivot ones such as the Safari Equip and the Alisport/Sonic ones have two height positions, as well as shifting wheel to offside. Moving wheel to the offside increases access to the rear door handle. Having the spare wheel higher helps with attaching trailers/caravans especially when fitted with Alko type hitches. Rear mirror visibility is hindered by middle seat rear passenger, cargo barrier, rear door grille (with or without goodies attached to them), items in load compartment, rear window tinting, then the spare wheel helps block sight line. Like a lot of thing it is a compromise. Brendan |

I was surprised by the fact that rear view with the carrier / wheel mounted was still very good.
