i'm with you on that one! To low revs for the gear! 1500-2200 max boost at those revs so max torque and it's struggling to pull it! You lot invent half the problems |

Exactly! I have an Alive remap on my 110 SW and the first "untamed" version caused heavy juddering between 1750 and 2250 rpm in 5th and 6th and only when putting my foot down. Also only with the remap. Gary at Alive seems to think it's from increased torque, possibly to do with the front prop vibrating - capping the torque in those problem areas seems to be the solution (sorry Gary if I'm talking boll*cks ) He has been incredibly (!) patient with me and we almost have it sorted. Truck is now very usable and has plenty of smooth power all the way up. Just a little judder through 2000 rpm in 5th and in 6th from 1500 to 2100 rpm when pulling (and yes, sometimes I do drive uphill on the Autobahn in 6th at these rpm). I am very confident Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

A long time since my last post and I have ended up with the Version 2 BAS remap on my 110 (long story) - the juddering is hardly noticeable even on the "untamed" map, as the power/torque distribution is already very refined. That being said - what's the cause? Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

despite being noisy and having lots of low end torque, the tdci lump does need to be worked IMO
defenders already have chocolate drivetrains, don't make it worse by using 6th less than 2000/2200. that feeling of almost stalling destroys clutches in all cars, especially defenders. after needing a new clutch Im now keen to keep it going mpg and engine life are actually better if you stay in the right gear, its not just about keeping RPM down... Sorry been busy. Intercooler hose fouling steering shaft. Under boost the turbo spools up and vibration is transmitted to, and amplified by the steering. |

In a tall gear and putting foot down will put the full engine torque on the drive train. With a remap you are probably getting a 25 or 30% increase in torque putting even more twisting action into the mechanicals. Anything that is loose, badly worn or out of balance in the drive train will cause vibration. U/Js etc. I have had it on other cars where wheel balance was brought into question under high torque conditions - despite my disbelief it was resolved once balanced.
Peak torque is at the rev ranges reported. You could try removing either the front or rear prop, locking the centre diff and going out for a run - that will help you eliminate or prove which end of the truck is causing/not causing it |

200bhp/560nm and no vibration issues in any gear..... with a standard drivetrain. This is from 1500rpm upwards... infact even from about 1300rpm....

Some people in the past do tend to get used to the good extra torque and start driving a little "lazy" in 6th , polite note to all. Make sure you use the gearbox and revs for what they are designed for and it won't happen in most cases.
Allow it to rev more in gears before selecting the next, and select the correct gear for the traveling speed and torque vibration won't generally happen. Of course cars with bad clutches, warn prop joints, dodgy diffs etc or lifted suspension can cause the same effect as well as an array of other mechanical faults. My 110xs 2.2 with the same power Ian's 2.4 90 does not do it at its 200bhp and 560nm but I do allow it to rev in gears more than most and don't select 5th or 6th at a to low speed and so do not induce it. That said not sure how long the box will last with that amount of torque going through it lol as they do in places inside them seem to be made of toffee when we stripped one a few months ago for some internal upgrades we are on with Regards Pete. I had a car like this a couple or years ago, typically it was by pure fluke I found the exact same thing. I've also had a few with water in the fuel or contaminated fuel causing some very weird problems from knocking and tapping to vibrations on engine revving when under load. Pete. |
