I think I have replied to everyone who has contacted me.

I have decided to go ahead and build a couple more double din fascia's, this time with matching switch consoles for the cubby box for those of us with more switches! I will post some pictures of them when they are finished. I was going to produce one in the Brunel Silver colour again and can't decide what colour for the other, i was thinking of Santorini Black. Anyone got any other ideas? Question

Double Din Fascias, latest
Thanks for everyones messages. I have taken onboard all the different things that you were after and have been busy making up some new fascias. It has taken a bit longer than I would have liked ( Mad ) but means I have now built a jig to allow me to build switch consoles for the OEM electric window and accesssory switches on the Defender so if anyone wants any switch plates made up let me know.
I have ended up with 3 different designs which should cater for all the different combinations of accessories fitted to the Defender. I have made up one of each and painted them up in Brunel Chrome, here they all are:

They look great, been looking for something like this for a while.

Couple of question, is there any modifications required behind the console to allow the double din to fit? when i swapped my single din out it seemed a bit of a squeeze, do you have any photos of the space behind it and how is the 2 din unit mounted securely?

thanks
Patrick

Hi, you are right it is a bit of a squeeze to fit but it does fit. Thumbs Up I installed mine about a year ago and it took a bit of a leap of faith but it does work.
There are basically 3 small adjustments needed behind the fascia to fit the double din fascia. 1. You have to remove the piece of plastic running along the top of where the fascia sits (above the hazard light switch), 2. You have to cut the corner of the clock housing as it protrudes into where the stereo will sit (this was really worrying the first time but I couldn't believe an electric clock needed such a huge housing, which it didn't!) 3. Remove the single din mounting bracket. The cage fits in securely and the framework for the heating controls provides plenty of support. The first 2 can be done with a junior hacksaw, the hardest bit was removing the weird plastic lugs which hold the old mounting bracket. Mad
As i mentioned I fitted mine about a year ago and have never had any problems with it at all, with my Kenwood even the plastic trim fitted around the unit although this is the only bit that may be slightly to large and have to be adjusted or as the unit is recessed it can be fitted without it.
I am busy with work till the end of next week but will then take my dash off and take a few pictures so you can see the adjustments needed.

Thanks for that, don't go removing your dash on my account Smile I think I have a picture in my head now.

Great Mod, and now I have to save, hopefully you are still making them around November!!

thanks for the reply.

Thumbs Up

I’ve now received the double DIN fascia and I have to say how well it is made. In fact it’s better than the OEM. I’ve ordered the wireless, which should be delivered tomorrow and then, after a caravanning holiday, I’ll get down to fitting it in.

Thanks to busdriver for a job well done.

Hello,

I'm new on this site. I want to change my Def G4.
Could you make another double DIN fascia with switch console like the central fascia on the picture ?
Is it possible to have them in Orange Tangier color ?
If it's ok could you give me the price for them ?

Don't be surprised for my questions, i'm French and my English is not so good. But your work seems to be very perfect and i want to have one.

Thank you very much for your answer.

Excellent job. I know it has been a long time since last update but I would love to have one of those.
