So what have I gone and done?
An oil change......very easy you might think? Normally I would agree only this time I've gone and done it without first filling the oil filter first! So who's the answer? |

I would fill the fuel filter before fitting but not the oil filter, just use a little clean oil on the rubber seal

Especially with the 2.4 Puma you must always fill the fuel filter before fitting it then start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes otherwise you have a pig of a job bleeding it without the special primer bulb that Landrover state you need. (Ask me how I know!) and thats even when I did fill the filter beforehand!

Will sort the fuel filter later today now I have some fuel in the jerry can. Having done the oil, oil filter and air filter...what a difference!! induction growl sounds so much more obvious and low speed pickup is so much quicker.
Old air filter looked well dirty (wish i'd left a mark on old filter before service) so I guess either the air filter has improved things or i've disturbed the wiring for the better? Either way |

Sounds like the puma fuel bleeding process is more of a ball ache than the TD5 one, which was a complete doddle. Something like push pedal hold it for so long push again bla bla.
But nah, never bother with oil filter filling - not even on aircraft which hold 8 litres of oil, the 1st litre gets blown straight out the vent, half litre into the oil cannister after running it, then you're down to 6.5 already - ideal! Oil system can sort itself out, fuel, not so much. 1998 110 300Tdi White Hard Top |

Yes definitely make sure you don't get air in the fuel system. No auto prime feature and no pump on the filter itself as some cars have. Think this was the cause of my high pressure fuel pump failure not too long ago, although nothing was ever proven- was very weird Cheers, David Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8. |

Don't forget to fill the air filter with air when you fit it too!. Craig Rogers
