done a few miles today in the car and I had to do a sanity check........
I was careful how I worded this.....I asked my 10 year old daughter if she thought the car was any different after doing the 'service'.....her response - 'its louder' I can't get my head round the car, having done a 'service' its now louder.....nothing that sounds wrong - it just sounds like someone has fitted a big bore exhaust to it its running really well but its just bl**dy strange? |

found what was making the extra noise......contrary to me thinking someone had fitted a through pipe while I was asleep turns out some muppet didn't refit the airfilter box lid properly..... |

Just a note for the guys filling the fuel filter up before fitting- if you get grit into it whether from the fuel/container or whilst re fitting throw it away- it will go straight down the line to the pump. I have changed my filter 3 times now and never filled it (touch wood I haven't ever had a air pocket in it) just start up and leave to idle for a minute.
Yeah........ I got that right on the 3rd attempt and 4 tubs of Vaseline over 2 days- I got a funny look in the small shop the 3rd time I returned in 2 days Glyn |

just a thought Glyn,
where you fill the filter I think that might be on the 'entry' side ie prier to filtering? the other thing is on the replacement filter heads there appears to be two little symbols - open and closed padlock. are these by any at the back where you can't see them...if so who decided to fit the filter housing the wrong way round |

If it sounds louder check your airfilter. If you have not fitted this correctly the airfilter lid will not be 100% closed. You will see some of the filter. It can be a bit awkward to get it (the top of the airfilter box) fitted correctly. It will sound very loud. Also a danger of water getting sucked in. Run your fingers around the join where the top meets the bottom of the filter box. If it is not closed correctly you get a very loud sound as you have described. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel
