Lose steering when turning, is that normal? | |
Hi all,
I left the car today all day at the dealer to fix a lose steering.
When I picked up the car again this afternoon, nothing has changed, there is still approx 10deg of free move of the steering wheel before feeling any resistance and the wheels actually start to turn.
When the wheels are straight, all is fine, this happens only when the wheels are turned to the maximum (either to the left or to the right).
So I called the dealer again, and he says that's normal.
I do not have another Defender at hand to try, but this is the first car I ever see with such a problem. I wonder if it would pass the MOT (or even it's french equivalent)... A lose steering sounds like a serious safety issue to me, so I am really surprised.
So, can you tell me, is the dealer right, is that normal? do you have the same on your Defender?
To test, simply turn the steering wheel to the max, either to the left or to the right, turn the engine off, and try to turn the steering wheel slightly back and forth, is there any free move before the front wheels actually turn?
TIA
Olivier
