Fitted Security Camera
Bought myself a security camera so I could see when I get deliveries as the office is tucked away behind the house, so hard to see the driveway.

Added bonus is that the night vision is good so I can see what 'that noise is' at night without getting out of bed and trotting downstairs (as I have done a few times recently.)

Its a wireless ip camera from Foscam (FI19805W) which has 30m night vision which takes in the whole driveway, TBH its better when the car isn't in view as the bulk of it blocks out / absorbs most of the IR light leaving the rest of the garden a bit dim.Might put up some extra IR lamps if it becomes a problem Its way better than the B&Q offerings which only have 7-9m night vision.

Setup was fairly easy as they have a remote support team who will access your computer to set up the port forwarding etc on the router for you if required, active support forum as well if needed.

It will record still and moving images when you press a button on the viewing app (pc/mac and there is also an ipd/android app, both of which work well. It will also record automatically when it senses movement, although I haven't set this up yet, but have setup the email system so it sends the images to you by email. All clever stuff.

The good thing over a wired system (unless you have a remote setup) is that you can view it via pc/mac/ipad etc either via your network or from anywhere by a web portal (provided).

So far has seemed quite reliable with only a few wifi dropouts, video is nice and clear in using the 720p HD, although its not as smooth as I guess you'd get from a wired system. You can drop the resolution by three stages if you want.

So a worthwhile product if you want to see what's going on, won't stop anyone nicking your defender but at least you can see hw they do it! (and give you chance to stop them Whistle )

Price was a bargain at £116.95 delivered - a lot cheaper than others out there, you need to buy from Foscam direct to get that price. Lets hope it keeps going long term as if it does its an good solution.

Sadly no, its Ford Focus orange metallic Smile

That goes in the garage with the 90 at night and the 110 stays outside to test the water ingress Laughing

My camera has movement activation facility, it's a bit meh, it monitors what the screen shows and waits for any changes to occur. So when a cloud shadow passes over it starts recording when the sun suddenly comes out it starts recording, repeat till the sun goes down Neutral ,if someone drives past it sometimes misses most if not all of the recording, best having it record on a loop if you need it.As for picture quality, thats a very good image,as good as my wired cctv, only advantage seems to be moving images on mine are perfectly smooth.

It'll be interesting to see how well the motion sensor works when I get 5 mins. It looks like you can adjust the sensitivity and also set an area to concentrate on, as you say a large cloud shadow going over would probably trigger it and I'd imagine it will take a second of two to 'get going'.

I'm thinking of adding a couple of wired units as well (in more convenient locations) as 'I acquired' a four channel recorder a while back which is still sat in the office. It may well be possible to input this camera to that somehow - which should allow continuous recording - we'll see.

Not surprised. I'd be ashamed to leave that on my drive overnight too Laughing

Definitely upgrade the firmware, you don't want yr camera accessible from the internets.

Try Googling for inurl:view/view.shtml to see some examples of unsecured cameras. There's a long list of google search terms that can be used to uncover these cameras (if your interested)
