I have been looking at a few jobs on the defender that I reckon would be a bit easier with an impact gun, such as replacement of diff nose seals etc. Whilst I have air it's only for spraying not tools so I was wondering what is a good general service gun to look at, I had thought makita they seem to be good for other stuff? Cheers. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

Makita is good kit. Tools of choice for a lot of builders.
I've got a Ryobi 18v rattle gun which is nicely controllable and a fair amount of power but a few fittings on my 2003 hardtop have defeated it. Have a look at the max torque figure in the spec sheet of the guns you're looking at. 2003 Td5 110 Hardtop Now a 2013 110 USW too. |

Machine Mart does a 240v corded impact wrench for about £60. I was sceptical (always am of MM stuff since most is of Chinese origin) but needed one for a massive fencing job* so bought one - absolutely BRILLIANT!
It has worked hour after hour in all weathers running off a portable genny for the original job, and also sees regular use now on just about everything. * Driving three 12mm x 100mm coach screws without pilot holes into every one of over 200 fenceposts to hold overhang brackets. |

I bought 7 Snap on 18v Impact wrenches for our Crane erectors at work and one Snap on and one Milwauke for our hoist division the Snap on wrench wins hands down for the heavy work it's the first tool out of the box and the last one to be put away but would be an overkill for jobs at home. I just can't justify spending £400.00 on the Snap on one for myself, I'll borrow one from work when I need one

I'm on DeWalt. One's the old 18v battery type, and one's the new battery type (DCF885 IMPACT DRIVER 3AH 3AMP LI-ION).
The older 18v type "feels" better/sturdier, but the new one (DCF885) has much better battery life, it's lighter, and slightly smaller (so easier to get into tight spaces). Both been brilliant. I'll be swapping my XC70 wheels over at the weekend (to winter tyres/wheels) - I'll see how the DCF885 handles that job Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |

i have the latest model from snap on and use everyday, wouldn't be without it. but looking at the specs, the milwaukee has the same power but it's a lot cheaper, £700ish for the snap on with two batteries and the milwaukee is only £379 http://www.buyaparcel.com/pageview.php?pag...ower+Tools

When I bought the Snap-on ones they were on offer at £395.00 the offer has now ended and the price to me is about £500.00 plus the dreaded. The Milwauke was about £369.00 We have had problems with bearings failing and and trigger switches failing, all repaired under warranty on the Snap-on wrench, but having said that they have some heavy work to do.

Wow, I've never seen the snap on guns as cheap as that. Are you talking about the latest model with the led lamp above the trigger? If so I better have words with my dealer. Best I've seen them on offer is £625 plus vat

Snap off sounds a bit too industrial. Will have a look at the corded one but the makita looks good if a decent deal can be found. Cheers all. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.
